Original: “This is one very loving and intelligent little guy! He knows the basic commands ‘sit,’ ‘come,’ ‘give paw,’ ‘no,’ etc.”
Nova was relinquished by a family in Pennsylvania that felt he was a bit too energetic and “clingy” for them. This sweet guy is now looking for a forever family to call his own.
Since becoming a MAESSR boy, Nova has resided in a temporary foster home and his current foster home. Although his former owners declared him not housetrained, Nova had just one accident upon arriving at his temporary home. Since that one incident, there have been no other problems with accidents. Aside from standing by a back door, Nova does not really have a signal for needing a potty break; his foster mom frequently lets the resident canines out and this schedule has worked for Nova.
In his former home Nova resided with small children and reportedly he was good with them. There are three resident dogs in his foster home and he does well with them. Nova also would love to play with the two resident kitties, but they want no part of it!
Nova’s foster mom places him in a crate when she goes out because one of the resident dogs prefers to be top dog. The crate is used only to ensure that no problems arise when the dogs are alone. Nova really does not care for the crate and prefers someone home with him. At night he sleeps by his foster mom’s bed.
Nova is a typical young Springer. He loves to play and is ready to play anytime he can. However, he is a very laid-back guy when not busy playing. He does not have any special toys, but there is a bone that he loves to chew. He is content to simply lie beside his human and chew on the dog bone. Head scratches are most appreciated! This is one very loving and intelligent little guy! He knows the basic commands “sit”,” come,” “give paw,” “no,” etc. Nova listens very well and is quick to respond, always ready to please. He is a Velcro Springer in every sense of the word and will follow his humans everywhere!
While in the kitchen, Nova has been spotted stretching his neck to see what is on the counters from time to time. He is a tall guy and it would be easy for him to attempt a raid on the countertop, but he has never done so. He’s also left the trash cans alone. Unless invited, Nova does not get up on furniture. What a good boy! Nova will pull a little bit on walks, but he responds well to correction. This boy needs to be on a leash or fenced yard, however. If he gets loose, he will run to investigate the call of the wild. He had no problems at the vet and his foster mom can clean his ears without complaint.
Although Nova has mastered some of the basics of good boy behavior, he is still very much a puppy and a course of behavior classes will be a wonderful bonding experience for him and his new family. It is important for potential adopters to understand that MAESSR only places puppies in homes that are committed to training and bonding with the pup in obedience classes. Puppies require a lot of care, attention, and patience, and they do chew on things! The decision to get a puppy and raise it to be a healthy, happy, and well-adjusted dog is a serious commitment. To reinforce this commitment, MAESSR requires all adopters of dogs one year old and younger to enroll their puppy in obedience classes within 60 days of adoption.
A very sweet-tempered boy, Nova would likely do well in a family with children and other pets he could play with. A parent who spent a good deal of time in the home would be right near the top of his wish list. Nova promises to give love, companionship, and a cooperative attitude to his new family. Don’t miss the opportunity to add this special pup to yours.
