Update 02/20/2024: “Noah continues to be as handsome as a big boy as he was adorable as a pup.”
Noah was adopted by a loving MAESSR family in Maryland when he was a pup. An unfortunate recent change in the health of his owner required his relinquishment back to MAESSR.
In his foster home, Noah is found to be a very energetic boy who loves his walks and to play catch with tennis balls in his foster family’s yard. He is receiving invisible fence training as this is a new experience for him. As he is a truly Velcro Springer, Noah is having an easy time with the training.
This sweet boy is adjusting well to his new environment. He is doing very well with the resident 10-year-old blind Cocker Spaniel who was adopted from MAESSR eight years ago. Good boy, Noah!
Noah continues to be as handsome as a big boy as he was adorable as a pup. He will make one lucky family very happy to add him to their pack!
Original: “He loves the game of running into the shed and out into the yard in a circle to ambush Stella.”
Although it is rare for MAESSR to have puppies for placement, Noah and his littermate Stella came into MAESSR’s care when a Springer breeder in Maryland developed serious health problems and had to rehome his dogs. Fostered together, these two bright-eyed pups are growing and learning by leaps and bounds!
Noah is active and very friendly but calms and cuddles like one of the best! He loves and trusts everyone. Playing with his sister is so much fun! He loves the game of running into the shed and out into the yard in a circle to ambush Stella. With all this exercise, he is growing into his pendulous belly. Noah also is quite taken with the female resident MAESSR dog who is coming out of her shell to play with the puppies. This is absolutely the best their foster mom could hope for the resident dog. Both puppies love to chase her, and she loves them and their puppy antics.
Easy to entertain, Noah loves toys that squeak or make noise of any kind. One of the best toys is an empty plastic water bottle. He loves noise—the crunch of the water bottle and squeaky toys. Noah likes to help with gardening too! He loves to explore and enlarge any holes he finds. Although the pups have been in lockdown like the rest of the world, they have had the experience of walking on many surfaces including a wobble board; they love to jump in and out of the kiddie-pool with or without water and do figure 8’s in the bushes.
Initially the two pups slept together in a large crate with newspaper at one end for those “just couldn’t hold it any longer” moments. They now are sleeping in separate crates at night and their bedding has been dry in the morning, which starts any time after 4 a.m. They are well on the way to housetraining. As a signal that it is time to go outside, their foster mom rings a string of sleigh bells and the puppies follow her like the Pied Piper to the front door. Most of the time they make it without any mishaps.
Noah was not excited about his first big boy trip in the shower but gradually settled and laid on his side, loving the massage to his lovely liver coat. He tolerated having his nails trimmed but that was probably as much his foster mom’s ineptitude as his wiggling.
His foster mom sees a budding counter-surfer in this little scamp. Noah will “sit” for attention after he has tried to jump on his foster mom but no rewards without a sit, Noah! Rewards are a finger with a little peanut butter on the tip, which should help with more formal obedience training in the future.
Potential adopters should note that MAESSR only places puppies in homes that are committed to training and bonding with the pup in obedience classes. Puppies require a lot of care, attention, and patience, and they do chew on things! The decision to get a puppy and raise it to be a healthy, happy, and well-adjusted dog is a serious commitment. To reinforce this commitment, MAESSR requires all adopters of dogs one year old and under to enroll their puppy in obedience classes within 60 days of adoption. Noah is a smart little guy and should be a star pupil!
Fostering Noah is a joy, but a lot of training is still needed before he becomes the perfect companion dog which his foster mom knows will happen. Soon this sweet bundle of energy will be ready for his forever family.
