Original: “A real love bug, Niko cracks his foster family up!”
When his Pennsylvania owners had no time for Niko, they surrendered him to a local shelter whose staff contacted MAESSR for help in fostering and placing him. Now, Niko is starting a new life as a MAESSR Springer!
While with his previous owners, Niko was kept in the basement and his coat was badly matted. Coming to his foster home, he was obviously delighted to be part of the household and out of his dungeon to the point that he was somewhat hyper and pulled on the leash when outside. Within a fairly short time, Niko calmed down somewhat and is not pulling on his leash. He knows to “sit” and “stay” and always seems eager to please.
Niko, or Nick as he is affectionately called, is housetrained and paces to show his need to go out. If his foster parents don’t notice this signal, Niko will bark at them. He loves to be outside, sniffing and exploring; however, sometimes he becomes so engrossed in the outdoors that he forgets that he also needs to complete his business. Because of this, some accidents indoors have resulted. He is getting much better though. In fact, Niko hasn’t been crated since being at his foster home. At night, he either sleeps on the floor in his foster parents’ bedroom or on the love seat there. He likes to jump up on the bed to get belly rubs, scratching, and kisses, too! Now, Niko will give kisses in return. Such a lover boy! Niko has nice house manners and does not counter-surf or get in the trash. He will watch his foster family intently as they eat their meals, though.
A real lovebug, Niko cracks his foster family up! At bedtime, he goes in circles to lie down but then comes over to his foster parents and roots his head and nose in the blankets, and finally rolls over! Niko’s goofiness is coming out and he has discovered how much he loves belly rubs and kisses! Well-behaved when his coat was trimmed and his nails were clipped at the shelter, Niko was also a good boy at the vet’s office.
A playful guy, Niko loves to engage the resident Springers in a game of tug-of-war. He is fond of chew toys and balls and he may guard certain toys from the resident Springers. He does not resource guard his food or water, though. Niko thinks that the resident cats would make fun toys, so a forever home without cats may be good idea. Niko is a sweet boy who does not act his age.
This very loving boy who would be a great addition to any family!
