Original: Niko was found as a stray in central Virginia, taken to a shelter, and then transferred into MAESSR’s care. It was obvious from the extremely poor quality of his coat and the extensive number of fleas that Niko had been living as an outside dog for a long time. It took FIVE baths to get the water to run clear, but he patiently tolerated each bath.
With his coat cleaned up and his fleas gone, Niko walked in the door of his foster home and decided that he was going to be an inside boy for the rest of his life! His house manners show that he is ready for this transition since this extremely sweet and gentle boy has not had one accident in the house. He sleeps beside his foster parent’s bed all night without a problem. Also, there is no counter surfing or trash can raiding for this polite Springer boy. He is equally good outside walking well on the leash and riding in the car.
When it comes to crating, though, Niko would prefer to not be crated. He gets a bit stressed when he is put in a crate, but he does eventually settle. Niko wants to be with his people no matter what they are doing; he will just patiently wait. It’s not only his foster family he adores; he loves people of all shapes and sizes – everyone is viewed as a friend! This love is easy for anyone he meets to reciprocate since he gives such gentle, sweet kisses that one just has to hug him!
