Update 9/07/03:
Nelson has been adopted by a wonderful family!
Original:
His former owners relinquished Nelson as they were moving into a new home and didn’t think he would work out there. Nelson has a spot on his right leg that he licks. He is being treated with medication to clear it up. The foster family was told that Nelson has a nervous stomach and throws up about once a week. They have not seen this yet. Nelson is up to date with shots, and will be going for heartworm check and a stool check.
Nelson is very handsome, gentle, sweet, smart, housetrained, trustworthy and obedient. There are no children in his foster home but the previous owners had two children, ages 4.5 years and 17 month,s and Nelson is said to have been great with them. He loves people, so far everyone he has come in contact with loves him too. He loves to go for a car ride and sits in the back seat looking out the window. Nelson is not a chewer. He likes to play ball and will bring it back and give it to you if you insist; otherwise, he would like you to go to him! He wants to see what you are doing and after he does he usually goes off and lies down. Nelson will bring his toys to you when he wants to play. Nelson’s foster family doesn’t believe he has been exposed to cats prior to them fostering him. When he sees the cat, he tries not to look at it. When the cat walks away, he will try to smell him. Nelson doesn’t jump up or bark excessively, just enough to let you know there is a dog going for his walk past the house. Nelson will paw you when he thinks he needs some attention or wants more. Nelson is very trainable, in a few days he learned to shake on command. He will make someone an excellent companion.
Nelson is a counter surfer, and we are working on breaking this habit. He likes to drink out of the toilet bowl, but is learning that is not where he should get a drink. Nelson likes to sleep on the bed at times and other times is content to lie on the floor. Nelson’s foster family is working on keeping him off the couch, but he will get on the couch when they are away. He doesn’t like to be left in the yard while they are on the other side of the fence, he will whine, but stops for a few minutes when told no. He understands no! Nelson does pull on a leash but heels on command. He doesn’t really care to be groomed but has no problem getting a bath.
