Update 9/17/03:
Neeko is enjoying his new home!
Update 8/13/03:
Neeko continues to do well in foster care. He likes to go for walks, play catch and run around the yard with his Springer sister. He is becoming more confident and will play with her more rather than hiding. He walks nicely on the leash (most of the time). He does like to counter surf and take things off the coffee and end tables. He will get down when you tell him NO and will let you take items out of his mouth with no problem. He continues to be very mouthy but has a ready supply of nylabones, rope & squeaky toys. He loves to be in water so giving him a bath is no trouble. He does like to drink while bathing though! He is ok when brushed, having his ears cleaned & fooling with his feet. He does enjoy the cheese reward for sitting nicely for ear cleaning.
Original:
Neeko is a 14-week-old puppy who was brought into rescue with 4 other Springers- his father, a female, and 2 other puppies. Montgomery is from the same litter as Neeko. Owen has the same father but a different mother. Like Owen, Neeko is the spitting image of his father but without the big feet.
Neeko is a sweet little guy who is all puppy. He is doing very well in foster care. When he first came to his foster home, he followed his foster mother everywhere. He is now starting to exert his independence a little and is exploring more on his own. He knows “sit” and “come” and the foster family is working on “down”, “off” and “wait”.
Neeko is doing very well with crate-training. He goes to bed about 11:00 PM and is quiet until about 7:30 AM. He takes his naps in the crate or under the kitchen table. He is also happy to catch of few winks in someone’s lap or under the computer desk. Neeko still has some peeing accidents in the house. Much of the time, it is that the family just doesn’t get him out quickly enough. He has been doing his other business outside on a consistent basis.
Neeko loves water!! He will go nuts over a bowl of water more than a bowl of food. He likes to get his whole muzzle in the bowl and sometimes his front paws too! He can make quite a mess. It also drives him nuts when the resident female Springer is drinking, and he will push her out of the way to get a drink. He will jump right into the kiddie pool and splash around and loves to drink the water right out of the hose.
Neeko is a very vocal little boy. He barks when he wants something, when he is afraid and when he sees that the resident ESS has something he doesn’t. He also wants all the toys. Neeko likes rope toys, squeaky toys, Nylabones and tennis balls. He will chase tennis balls and sometimes even brings them back. He also likes to eat worms, slugs and other slimy things.
Neeko is a very big chewer and the foster family is trying to make sure he only chews on the appropriate toys. He will steal shoes and socks and has been caught chewing on a chair leg or two. He needs constant supervision or he can get into trouble.
Neeko is a little skittish, but the foster family has been trying to get him out and about to meet new people and be exposed to new things. He likes going in the car and is getting used to walking on the leash. He likes to tease his Springer sister by nipping at her ears but runs and hides if she wants to nip back. He likes to sleep next to her at the family’s feet and eat her food.
Neeko loves to have his ears scratched, his belly rubbed and an available lap to curl up in. Can he find it in your home?
