Original: “This sweet fellow just loves to cuddle with anyone willing to sit next to him.”
Nate came to MAESSR from his Pennsylvania home when his family had to move to a place that would not accept dogs. Now, he is settled into his foster home learning to play with toys and enjoying the attentions of his foster parents.
This sweet fellow just loves to cuddle with anyone willing to sit next to him. He is very gentle, sweet, and listens well. He is good with all people but does startle easily; so, he needs to be approached quietly. Nate is living with another male dog about which he has mixed feelings; he sometimes plays with him, but other times he is intolerant of him. As such, Nate may be best as the only male dog in his forever home.
Nate is housetrained and whines when he needs to relieve himself. Although crate trained, he is given full run of the house and loves it. He spends the majority of his time napping on the couch cuddling with the pillows. At night he prefers to snuggle in bed with his foster family—he’s just one big snuggle bug! This good boy does not chew inappropriately or counter-surf and shows no signs of food or toy aggression.
So far, the only commands Nate knows are “come” and “no.” His foster family is teaching him others so he can learn to be a fine Springer gentleman. When on walks, Nate has wonderful leash manners. He listens to all directions well and does not pull often. On a longer lead, he does get confused and tangles himself relatively often so a shorter leash works better with him. He does not pay attention to other dogs while walking, but can be spooked by backyard barking. Nate has some anxiety about car rides, but once in the car, he is very content. Nate’s foster family took him camping and hiking for a weekend and he did great! While at the campsite, he would lie right next to his people and on hikes he walked right next to them as they explored the area.
This handsome boy will need a furever family that does not mind sharing the furniture with him! They also will need to be patient and willing to work with him to overcome being spooked easily. Obedience classes are recommended for Nate to increase his confidence and skills. He might also prefer to be an only dog—or at least an only male dog. Are you the family who has lots of love to share with MAESSR’s snuggle bug?
