Nader is another of the Montgomery Nine. He is one of the shyest of the boys. He will need a great deal of time and attention to encourage him out of his shell and to teach him how to trust.
Update from his foster mom:
Nader is really a joy. As I type this he is laying down next to my chair. I am convinced that Springers must be the smartest dogs in the world. He is already getting the idea what sit means, doesn’t do it every time but has done it without help. My 11-year-old daughter taught him to chase a ball and bring it back to her in about 20 minutes and he is doing much better on the leash. He still likes to stop short without warning and has nearly tripped me a couple of times but I am also learning to be more careful of him.
Although he doesn’t respond to his name, when I call him and clap my hand or slap my legs he will come. Cassie also comes (maybe there is a treat involved) which I think is helping him. He is not all that crazy about treats but responds very well to having his head patted and his ears scratched. He and Cassie have played a little roughly but more her than him. He doesn’t seem to be anything more than playful. We got out the chew toys (1 for each) but, of course, they both wanted the one the other had. Nader is a little bigger and seemed to win more often, but Cassie seemed to accept it pretty well.
We have to go to the top of our street to pick up the paper (about a half mile) so I take the car. Cassie loves to go so we thought we would take Nader today. He cried the whole way up and back.
Last night in the crate he howled and cried. I tapped on the crate, and he stopped and was quiet for about 20 minutes and started again. My husband then did the tapping and he was quiet for the rest of the night. I had visions of being up all night with a howling dog! Housebreaking is also going well. Just one pee accident in the house. All in all I would say he is a great dog!
