Update 7/7/03:
When this boy came into rescue a little more than two weeks ago, he was sweet but frightened. It has been heartwarming to see his confidence grow. Whereas before, he would shy away from strangers or strange dogs he is now a one-dog welcome wagon. He loves to go to the dog park and has charmed the socks off of a few people there. They are impressed by his calm and sweet demeanor and his handsome good looks.
Murphy is very sweet and very smart. It is clear that he has not had formal training but he learns very quickly. He comes when he is called, and I have no problem allowing him off leash because he doesn’t go far and always returns when I say, “Murphy, come!”. He is completely housebroken and has had no accidents in the house. He also does not chew inappropriate items. He is crate-trained and only rarely makes a fuss of being left in the crate. I don’t think he needs to be crated, but I do it for his safety as the resident male Springer (aka “Jealous Boy”) is less than thrilled by our recent houseguest.
Original:
Murphy came to MAESSR from a shelter. He was turned In as his owners were not allowed pets per their lease agreement, and Murphy’s presence was clearly a violation of this clause.
Murphy did not like the shelter at all and cowered for 24 hours until he was sprung. He clearly has not been around other dogs and did not know how to behave. At first, he mostly walked around licking and trying to mount the other dogs in his foster home. Their doggie admonitions seemed to have no effect. After his first week in foster care at a different foster home, Murphy was neutered and learned some good doggie etiquette. Now he is back in his current foster home and is getting along fine with the two dogs there. A trip to the dog park confirmed that this boy knows how to play and behave with and around other dogs.
While looks shouldn’t matter, they do. This boy is so handsome. He has a beautiful blaze and a very handsome face. He is quite the love-bug and will sit and let you love him as long as you wish. While most young Springers are a bit hyper, this boy is very calm and sweet. While driving in the car, he put his head between the seats and rested his head on his foster mom’s shoulders.
Can you give Murphy the home he desires?
Update 7/15/03: Murphy has found the home he was looking for.
