When Murphy’s Pennsylvania owners were moving to a smaller place in Florida, they decided to rehome Murphy since they had other dogs and not much room. And, so, this handsome fellow became a MAESSR boy.
Although he was initially shy in his foster home, Murphy soon warmed up to everyone and has greeted all with a waggity tail. He ignores the resident Springer who wants to dominate him, shows no food aggression, walks well on leash and is an all around good-natured pup. He’ll spot critters such as birds, squirrels, and bunnies, and, while he wants to chase them—after all, he is a Springer–he isn’t obsessive about it. He caught a frog in the back yard his second day in foster, but let his foster mom take it from his mouth and toss it over the fence where it could safely hop along on its way. Reportedly, Murphy liked to greet the horse that lived next door to his prior owner, and, while he has not been observed with cats, those who know him feel he would adjust to those pesky felines.
Murph began having seizures when he was 5 ½ years old shortly after being given flea/tick medication; his attacks worsened until he was started on an anti-seizure medication, which he now takes twice daily. He has not had a seizure since except for one while he was boarded and may not have received the medication.
Murphy knows “sit,” loves being brushed, is good in the car, and will wade into the baby pool. Though he goes into a crate to rest, he’s just closed out of the kitchen at night and sleeps near the stairs to his foster folks’ room. He is housetrained, not food aggressive at all and loves the sight of a leash as it means he will be going for a walk or run for a few miles. He likes meeting other dogs and especially likes meeting people.
This young man is an all around good dog—no counter-surfing or trash diving for this champ! He tolerates any poking or prodding at his ears or mouth since, to him, it’s all just positive attention. During the day, he flops near his foster mom while she works, being sure to shadow her moves to get coffee just in case she should happen to need a friendly Springer for any reason.
Murphy is just starting to play with toys. In the morning, when the humans first appear, he likes to grab a soft toy, take it to his little bed and roll around trying to get them to play with him.
This handsome white pooch with the beautiful brown ears would like a home where folks would remember to give him his medication but then just treat him like the fine Springer he is.
