Murphy’s former owner from New Jersey had some life changes that required him to move in with a family member that has young children, ages two and four. Some problems developed with the children sharing food with Murphy and then taking it away. Not liking this situation, Murphy responded inappropriately. So, Murphy’s owner turned to MAESSR for help in finding him a new home without young children.
Having been through considerable change in a short time, Murphy was a bit depressed and was not eating when he entered foster care; however, he has come around and is settling in well now. Housetrained, Murphy barks when he needs to go out. He is crate-trained, but his foster parents haven’t needed to crate him since he is so trustworthy. He has full run of the house with no problem at all. Murphy sleeps bedside or on the couch. (He came with furniture privileges!). Murphy does like the furniture, preferably with a human to snuggle with.
A typical Velcro boy, Murphy wants to be as close to his people as he can. He also gets along with the resident dogs and cat although he does not interact with them much. Although he is generally good in the house, after a day of fasting due to an upset stomach, Murphy did snag a loaf of bread. He must have been feeling better and was ready for a snack. For the most part, he respects the gates that are used to keep the dogs from certain parts of the house, but Murphy has been observed clearing a three foot gate from a sit! Pretty impressive for an older guy!
Murphy has just started to show some interest in the toy-box, so his foster parents are interested to see what toys he will like best. His foster parents have not seen any resource guarding from him; he is feed in the same room with the resident dogs and is fine. Murphy does beg for people food, but his foster parents are working on that. If you like company for running errands in the car, Murphy would love to accompany you; he is great in the car.
This mellow guy is happy to snuggle or go for daily walks. Murphy pulls a bit on the leash, but then settles down, walking pretty well. He loves meeting new people, but then, he gets excited and jumps up a bit. Responding quickly to correction, Murphy puts his paws on the ground when told. This funny guy doesn’t really like the grass much, but is getting better. Murphy knows the basics: “sit,” “down,” “come,” “give paw,” and his favorite “roll over” which always leads to belly rubs which he loves. Murphy was home groomed and well behaved. He is good for having his nails clipped and his ears cleaned.
Murphy would love an active forever family that is willing to include him in their adventures as he really would like to go everywhere with his people. His new family should not include young people, though.
