Moses is a 35 pound boy who was getting pushed around by the older, bigger male dog in his home. The family couldn’t stop the older dog from bullying Moses, so they sought MAESSR’s help in finding him a more suitable home.
After a few days, Moses has settled into his foster home and is learning the routine. He arrived not being too comfortable in the car but that has changed. He is taken somewhere in the car every day and outings are now very welcome. He generally sits quietly and looks out the window or lies down.
At first, Moses was afraid of the two resident Springers in his foster home. They are both much bigger than he is and one is very loud. Whenever they came near him, he threw himself on his back, sometimes peeing a bit. Fortunately, this has stopped and he now seems comfortable with them. He doesn’t play with them but will run out when they spot a bird or squirrel in need of chasing. He likes the female and is generally very close by her. He runs alongside the dogs, reaching over and giving them a little lick on the muzzle from time to time. His foster mom is working with Moses on taking turns when treats are passed out. He’s starting to get that he needs to wait for his turn. Moses also squeezes his little self into any petting another dog might be getting. The resident dogs don’t seem to mind that he’s an attention hog. Moses even tries to get into the action when the resident male is getting his eye drops! He hasn’t quite grasped that drops in the eyes are not good attention.
Completely housebroken, Moses has started going to the back door to signal his wish to be let out. His foster mom also takes him out regularly and watches to be sure he is taking care of business. Moses has pretty good house manners for a young boy. He tried a few times to snag items from the counter and got down when told. It would be best not to tempt this hungry boy with items left on counters. He hasn’t gotten into the trash since it is kept in dog-proof containers. He will get on the furniture and even got up onto the kitchen table once! He was taken down and told “no” and hasn’t since repeated the performance. It’s hard to stop him from getting onto the sofa in his foster home since the resident dogs are allowed and he sticks pretty close to them. Moses has not yet uttered a peep in his foster home. His foster mom is pretty sure he has a voice, but he hasn’t chosen to use it yet.
So far, Moses just seems to know the command “sit” and he generally comes when his name is called. His foster mom thinks he’s a bright fellow and can learn many commands but he hasn’t yet been taught. When Moses is doing something he shouldn’t, a firm “no” seems to stop him. He has little leash walking experience so tends to pull. Moses hasn’t caught on that he is supposed to be paying attention to the person walking him. While taking the obedience class that will be a requirement of his adoption, Moses’ forever family will have the opportunity to teach this eager pupil all he needs to know!
Whether sleeping in his foster parents’ bed or with the children in his foster home, Moses is content as long as he is close to someone. He wakes everyone up in the morning with sweet puppy kisses! Moses used a crate in the past, but currently he is given free run of the house with just a few doors closed and gates up to keep him from trouble. Since he is a young boy, he does need to be watched to be sure he isn’t getting into anything he shouldn’t. He seems to have a love for ripping up paper and boxes.
Moses is just starting to play with a few toys. He will run for the ball but isn’t much for bringing it back. He likes to chew a hard bone, but not for too long. He has shown no guarding of any kind with people or other dogs. What Moses really likes to do is run around chasing critters and sniffing for scents. He gracefully springs around the yard, light on his feet like a gazelle. His foster mom thinks he looks like a canine ballet dancer, leaping over other dogs, chairs, or any other objects in his way.
Moses is a submissive boy who takes a little time to warm up to new situations. When he meets new people in his foster home, he’s not shy – it’s just new places and new things that make him uncertain. As he experiences more and more of life, he should be more comfortable. His foster mom has also seen a little submissive urination when she returns from being away. Currently, she is ignoring Moses until he has a chance to get outside and empty his bladder. She expects this behavior to subside once he is more settled.
This good boy got an A+ from the vet for his behavior during the visit. He was very patient while getting blood drawn and being examined. He did test positive for hookworms and coccidia and is being treated for both. Moses was also good for his neutering. The vet sent him off saying, “Fatten up that boy!” To this end, Moses is more than willing to consume twice the rations of the resident dogs as well as all treats thrown his way. He should probably gain about three to five pounds.
Typical for a young Springer, Moses is a high energy boy who LOVES to run outside. He is a black and white blur, sprinting around the large yard until his tongue hangs out. He is the fastest dog his foster mom has ever seen; she thinks he could give any greyhound a run for his money! When he is done burning off all the energy, Moses is able to settle easily inside and can be content chewing a bone or just relaxing.
Moses would do well in many homes. Because he likes attention and will need training and guidance to grow up into a fine Springer adult, a forever family with plenty of time for him is key. Moses is an absolute doll baby. He loves to be with his people, doing whatever they are doing and seeks attention from all. If you’re sitting down, expect to have this young pup cuddling up into your lap with his head on your shoulder, sloppily licking your face. If you’re looking for a sweet, loving boy, inquire about Moses.
