Montgomery is being surrendered because his owner is getting married. The problem is that one of the children coming into the household isn’t good with dogs. So, Montgomery needs to find a new home.
Montgomery is housebroken, leash-trained and years ago was crate-trained. He hasn’t been in a crate since he was a puppy. But, he is completely trustworthy in the house.
Montgomery is a very typical older Springer Spaniel. He’s friendly and ready to go at a moment’s notice but settles down quickly. Monty is a little on the pudgy side but has no food aggression and allowed removal of his food. If you pet him while he’s eating he stops and enjoys the petting and then resumes eating when you stop.
He is blind in his right eye but that didn’t stop him from showing me his stuffed ducky, which he proudly paraded around with and then gave me to throw for him. If you come up quietly on his blind side he startles a little, but who wouldn’t. Montgomery also has some small fatty tumors. These are typical on older Springers and should not lead to any serious problems. Most vets do not remove them unless they impede a dog’s movement or cause other discomfort.
Monty is a very pretty little bench-bred fellow, he is supposed to be a black and white, but if you look close there are liver hairs mixed in with the black which in the right light makes him the darkest liver Springer I’ve ever seen. He does like his comfort and sneaks up on the furniture when he thinks he can get away with it. I think the not-kid-friendly growling was because of a not dog-respectful child and believe he would be fine with older, dog-smart kids.
Update:
Montgomery has found a new home!!!
