Update 11/23/2020: “She also barks at animals on TV…fans of Animal Planet should be prepared!”
Life for Molly just continues to improve. She was treated for giardia and a urinary tract infection. Her urinalysis was clear but she will be re-tested in a month just to make sure it is completely gone. The supplement she takes for her joints appears to be working and her mobility is fine. In fact, Molly can jump from the floor to her foster parents’ big bed without a problem! She sleeps at the bottom of the big bed at night.
This sweet girl likes to be close to her people. She also is a wonderful greeter for anyone coming into the house. And Molly appears to be obliged to take on the role of protector of the house.
Another love of Molly’s is her food. She’s a gentle girl but does not like to share her food. The other canines will just have to do with their own.
Molly is learning to open the dog door to come back into the house from her fenced yard. She has the going out part down fine; coming back in is still a work in progress.
When her foster mom is gone, Molly barks. She also barks at animals on TV…fans of Animal Planet should be prepared!
Molly is a great nighttime sleeper, snoozing through the night until morning. She also likes to nap on and off throughout the day. She would make a super companion for someone who is looking for an easy-going gal that just wants to hang out with her people.
Molly would love to join her forever family for the holidays. Do you have room for one more?
Original: “A pleasure to foster, Molly has since adapted well to her new home and is fun to be around.”
When Molly’s Pennsylvania owner faced a move and was not allowed to have dogs in a new residence, Molly and her companion Maddie were taken to a local shelter. The shelter contacted MAESSR and the girls were on her way to a foster home.
Molly is a sweet girl that likes to be around people who supply her with pets, ear scratches, and tummy rubs. She did whine and bark when first picked up by her foster parents and this continued, on and off, for the first day. A pleasure to foster, Molly has since adapted well to her new home and is fun to be around. She shows no interest in toys but is just a happy-go-lucky pup.
This good girl does not counter-surf, get into trash, or chew or destroy anything in the house. She also is housetrained. She has 24/7 run of the house and has not been crated due to her reliability. Her foster parents believe that she was not crate trained because she had total house access in her former home. When she needs to go out, Molly will whine or bark. Her foster parents are working with her on using a doggy door. Molly has no problem with getting out on her own but needs to learn how to get back in without assistance. She has no problem navigating the stairs on the outside deck.
Molly does not get up on furniture except at bedtime and nap times. She likes to sleep down at the foot of her foster parents’ bed and has no trouble hopping up there. During the first few days in the foster home, Molly and Maddie slept together. Now, they both go their separate ways and hardly interact. Molly has been fine with her and the resident dog, although when feeding she will warn them to leave her alone to eat. Her foster parents have no problem picking up the bowl when she is eating.
Molly enjoys her food, perhaps a bit too much. In her former home she was permitted to free feed at any time. Apparently, she took a bit more than her share as indicated by her weight. Her foster parents have reduced her food and feed her just twice daily. Molly is a low energy dog and she requires daily walks to help with her weight reduction. She does pull on the leash, but if offered rewards she is fine.
Although fine for a grooming, nail trim, and ear cleaning, Molly was totally freaked out at the vet. When pre-medicated, she was cooperative. A tumor on her right rear leg was biopsied and determined to be benign and no treatment is necessary.
Molly is a people-oriented dog and when her foster parents leave Molly will whine and bark. This usually happens when her foster mom pulls out of the driveway and stops when she returns. On a day when her foster dad was home, he called to her and she came to him and stopped whining…for 15 minutes. Then, Molly was back at a window whining and barking for her foster mom to return.
Molly is adventurous, and her foster parents would not trust her off leash unless in a fenced area. She does come when called. She is smart and loving towards her people. Molly would be best in a situation where someone is home much of the time as she just needs attention, encouragement, and regular exercise. She could be fine as an only dog or with canine companions.
Senior Springers are the best! Miss Molly will be a wonderful companion to her new family.
