Original: “Molly is a sweet gentle girl who loves to be loved.”Molly was relinquished to a Pennsylvania shelter along with two cocker spaniels by their Amish owners for killing some chickens. The dogs were also used in the family’s dog breeding operation. One of the shelter staff was also a long time MAESSR volunteer so Molly quickly became a MAESSR girl.
Molly is a sweet gentle girl who loves to be loved. She prefers to interact with people not the resident dog. She is not aggressive towards other dogs—just standoffish and capable of a mean lip curl! She doesn’t guard food or toys. In fact her foster mom can touch her food bowl while she is eating and pick it up; Molly just waits for it to be put down again so she can finish eating. She and the resident dog are fed at the same time in the kitchen but in different spots.
Although there are no resident cats in her foster home, her foster mom thinks she would love to chase them. The next door neighbor’s outdoor cat roams the property and Molly is very interested in it.
Molly is housetrained but did have a couple of accidents as she was getting used to life in foster care. She signals her need to go out by dancing at the door. She doesn’t have to do that often since she and the resident dog are taken outside frequently during the day. Molly seems to do her business in short order and is then ready to come back in the house. She is fine in the crate but sometimes needs a little encouraging to get in but then settles down quickly. Molly is crated at night and while her foster parents are away.
Her foster parents are helping Molly brush up on her house manners. She would like to counter-surf but is learning that that is not acceptable behavior. Knocking over the covered trash can earned Molly a scolding. At least she doesn’t get on the furniture. Molly only chews on dog appropriate chew items. Toys are something totally new for her. Molly is slowly getting interested in balls and plush toys—things she had not been exposed to in her previous environment.
Molly has not been to the groomers yet but her foster mom has been working on getting her coat brushed and the dead hair out. She enjoys being brushed, staying still for as long as her person continues to brush her. She doesn’t mind her nails being cut and her feet being played with. Her foster mom actually took her to have her nails trimmed to see her reaction. Molly just sat and watched while they were working on her nails. She waited patiently for her treat for being a good girl. Although she is not fond of the cleaning solution being put in her ears, she actually doesn’t mind her ears being cleaned. When she went to the vet for her spay appointment, she did not like the commotion there.
Just the command “lie down” seems to be firmly in Molly’s vocabulary. She’ll learn new commands quickly from her forever family, though. It is apparent that Molly had not been taken on leash walks previously as she tends to pull and zig-zag back and forth. She is getting better each time she is walked. In the car Molly is fine as long as someone is in the back seat with her. Then, she will just lie down and sleep.
This sweetie would love to be an only dog in her forever home so that she could get all of the attention and love from her humans. Very laid back, Molly just wants to be close to her people.
