Update 12/07/2017: “If you’re poised to adopt and open your heart to one and only one pet, ask about meeting this gal. She’s ready to love her people.“
With almost two months in foster care, Miss Molly is doing well. Her family reaffirms that she is very sweet…a real Velcro Springer.
As she has settled, however, a new trait has emerged. She has become very protective of her personal space with other animals. She does not like four-legged friends near her bed or near the kitchen table. The littlest kitty that got to sleep with Molly shortly after Molly’s arrival is no longer welcomed. Indeed, Molly would do best in a home without other indoor pets.
Miss Molly is what many tag as a “people” dog. She’s one who will thrive in a home with human housemates to lavish her undivided attention on. She’ll shine as the only pet in a home to be doted on. Her family will need to embrace her Velcro nature, include her in daily activities and be ready to snuggle up at day’s end. If you’re poised to adopt and open your heart to one and only one pet, ask about meeting this gal. She’s ready to love her people…
Original: “When being spoken to, she stares into the speaker’s eyes, cocks her head, and really tries to understand. She even ‘woofs’ a little in response.”
When a new service dog came to live in her Pennsylvania home, Molly and the new dog would compete for food and attention. There was one scuffle too many and Molly found herself needing a new home. So, she became a MAESSR dog.
Molly has been a near perfect house guest in her foster home. She is housetrained and does not get up on any furniture, at least while her foster parents are home. This attentive girl will bark to alert her people when she hears a knock on the door or a vehicle in the driveway. Molly does not chew on anything except her tennis ball, which is a constant companion. During her family’s mealtime, she sleeps under the table while they are eating and does not beg. If given the opportunity, though, she will counter-surf and sneak a taste of the cats’ food. Speaking of cats, Molly basically ignores the resident felines; she is more wary of them than they are of her. The littlest kitty enjoys sleeping with Molly on her bed.
Molly’s exposure to little children has been very limited. As with the cats, she is wary of the littlest visitors, who range from age 3 to 5. The older boy won her over by throwing the tennis ball for her to retrieve. Indeed, she would do this all day given the chance! For being 7 years old, Molly sure can run! Since she has been in foster care, Molly has not interacted with another dog. She is enjoying her status as an only dog in her foster home.
Although she is crate trained Molly does not like being confined in it. Her foster family quickly allowed her full access to the house while they are away, without incident. She can go 8-9 hours and not have an accident. If she wants to go out, she lets her people know with a sharp bark. When walking on the leash, she does not pull but will zig-zag round to sniff. She knows some basic commands, like “sit” and “down.” She is also great in the car and was a star at the vet’s office..
Molly has a couple traits that really stand out: She is very attentive. When being spoken to, she stares into the speaker’s eyes, cocks her head, and really tries to understand. She even “woofs” a little in response. And she is also a Velcro Springer. She wants to be with her people, no matter where they are in the house. Just be prepared to throw her a tennis ball!
