When her Maryland owners divorced, neither family member could take Molly into their new living quarters. So, MAESSR came to Molly’s rescue.
In her new foster home, Molly quickly made friends with the resident 10 year old Springer and cat, having been raised with another dog and cat and being submissive around other animals. This housetrained Springer is also crate-trained. When crated, she will bark and cry for a few minutes when left alone, but then she quickly settles down. If not crated when her people leave, she will occasionally scratch on doors, a habit she is learning to break. Molly also covets furniture but almost always asks to come up before making the leap. She’d love nothing better than to curl up with you on the couch, but she knows that is not appropriate doggie behavior. Molly’s foster mom was told that Molly counter-surfs, but she has yet to observe that behavior. Molly rarely begs for people food during meals and usually just sleeps under the table when the family is eating. Her only bad habit is jumping up on people when excited, which she is learning not to do.
In addition to being a beauty, Molly is well-trained and exceptionally smart. She comes when called, does not bolt or wander away from her people, and loves to do her tricks, including rolling over and spinning in a circle. She easily loads in a car when you simply say, In and she walks well on a leash. When riding in a car, Molly prefers being up front with people instead of in the back, but she will stay if firmly told to do so. She’s also pretty fearless. Loud thunder and flashing lightning don’t faze her, nor does loud equipment. In fact, she easily rides around the farm in an ATV. She’s also comfortable and a bit curious around horses and cattle, and is learning to be cautious when in their presence.
Molly is very low key for a Springer except when water is involved, and then she shifts into high gear. She has loved swimming in her foster mom’s pond and can do so for hours. She will even leap off the dock! It’s a good thing that she loves to swim, because Molly is a bit chunky and needs the exercise. She loves to eat and will eat the resident Springer’s food AND hers if not separated or told to leave it. Her foster mom has her on a diet to address the minor weight issue, but otherwise, Molly seems to be in excellent health.
A true Velcro Springer, Molly does not like to be alone and the companionship of another dog does not take the place of a human. She follows her foster mom around the house and yard, along with the resident Springer, always parking herself nearby, ideally under foot. She will lie down and sleep until her foster mom is on the move, and away she goes…quietly, without fanfare. Molly sleeps next to the bed at night and stays quiet until someone gets up the next morning, when it’s time for breakfast.
Raised in a home with children, Molly is excellent around them, exhibiting no aggressive tendencies, even around young children that she is meeting for the first time. She will bark when strangers come to the door and when the doorbell rings, but quickly settles down when she knows the visitors are welcome.
With her passion for water, Molly hopes her forever home will have ready access to a pond or a pool or she will be very disappointed! She would love to live with children and other animals, but could also be happy as an only dog. This calm, smart, beautiful girl would make anyone an ideal companion!
