Update November 1, 2006:
Molly is a magnificent girl! Unfortunately, after several months in an adopting home, she was returned because the family felt she was not a good fit with their pets which included a springer and cats. In her original foster home, Molly did well with the resident dogs. She did not live with cats in that home but had lived with a cat in the past. Molly’s current foster family has been carefully watching her interaction with the dogs and cats she is meeting and feel she is doing well.
In her current home, Molly’s foster parents can see that she is a little shy and needs some time to adjust to new dogs in her life. Once she becomes familiar with them, though, they are like old friends to her. The only time she is sensitive with other dogs is when they are around her and she is eating. She does not show any protection of her food when people are around and will even let them brush and pet her while she dines. When it comes to cats, Molly is very interested. She sniffs around them and even gives a little paw to see if they want to play. The typical outcome of such an encounter leaves her foster mom feeling that Molly is great with the cats she is meeting.
When not busy with her 4 footed companions, Molly loves to get outside for walks with her people and is always ready to go when the car leaves. She is also content being a couch potato for a large part of the day. She can be a bit of an opportunist and finds people food very appealing. Living in a home with food-free counters may be a bit disappointing for Molly but makes minding her manners much easier. Rounding out a perfect day for Molly is having the chance to cuddle with her people. She really can’t get too much of that and is an all-around winner. All she needs is a family to cozy up with on the long winter evenings ahead.
Original: Molly will turn 9 years old on April 18th. She would very much like to share that personal milestone with a new loving family. She had lived her whole life with her original owner. Unfortunately, her owner’s living circumstances changed and could no longer include Molly.
Molly has also lived most of her life with another dog, so it’s not surprising that she is very sweet and gets along with the two male Springers in her foster home. She loves to run and rough house with them. Two other
Springers have visited her at her foster home and Molly did not back down when one of them came at her while growling. She is not aggressive with other dogs but is confident and shows a tendency to be a dominant dog if allowed. She has the run of the house with her two foster brothers during the day and there have been no problems at all. Her foster family has not used the crate with her as there has been no need.
Curiosity about everything in the kitchen keeps Molly very close to her foster mom. Molly will follow her all around the kitchen, peering into every cabinet and drawer she can.
She is not food aggressive and does not beg but Molly does counter surf but only when there is an especially enticing smell to check out!
Molly is housebroken and has been left alone for up to 9 hours without any accidents. She will not come up on furniture unless invited, but she does want to be near her people at all times. Molly misses her family when they leave for work and will bark to voice her discontent. That’s as far as it goes and there is never destructive behavior associated with this. Molly can jump straight up in the air about 3 feet, with all four paws off the ground!……. and does so when she is excited to see her people come home. She is very playful with them, and loves playing tug with the rope toys and will chase the tennis ball in the yard. She has been sleeping in the bedroom with her foster brothers, mom and dad and settles on the floor next to the door, so she will know if anyone leaves the room!
There are no children in Molly’s foster home but in her original home, Molly was exposed to a toddler who visited 3-4 times as week.
Molly has a beautiful coat and curls that any girl would envy. She allowed her foster family to bathe and groom her, and though she was not too happy while it was being done, she did not manage to escape once during the whole process. She is a healthy and active Springer with excellent house manners who can offer a new family wonderful companionship for years to come. Will you open your heart to this young-at-heart senior Springer?
