Original: “She is a fieldie in every sense of the word.”
When Mollie’s Maryland owners divorced, life circumstances prevented either of them from being able to keep her. The husband was caring for elderly parents who did not like dogs and the wife was returning to her homeland in Brazil – with long flights which would require Mollie to be crated which she does not like. So, Mollie became a MAESSR girl.
Mollie is an EXTREMELY active senior who has been used to living mostly unconfined on an acre of land. She is a fieldie in every sense of the word; she likes to be outdoors as much as possible and will cry at the door to be let outside. Loving to run in the woods, Mollie picks up animal scents and delights in chasing squirrels, chipmunks, and birds. Oddly, she isn’t interested in rabbits. When she is outside, her real obsession is playing fetch. She can outrun all of the younger dogs in her foster home and is willing to play until her person’s arm falls off! Her previous vet said if he had not been treating her since she was a puppy, he would not believe that she was 12 years old. This fieldie loves water, stopping to splash in puddles she encounters. She will growl playfully if you get too close to her face while playing, but it’s a game; she has no mean intent. As long as she can be outside, Mollie pretty much entertains herself.
Once she gets to know them, Mollie is good with all people, children included. Since it is not known how she is with toddlers, Mollie would probably do best in home with adults only or in a home where the children are older. She is very timid when first meeting new people and remains quiet until she gets to know them. She is good with other dogs and cats.
Completely housetrained and displaying good house manners, Mollie has been an excellent house guest in her foster home. She was crate trained as a puppy but has not used a crate in years and does not like to be confined. She has complete freedom in the house as she is so trustworthy. Mollie does not counter-surf or get into the trash. She will beg for treats but does not beg for food from the table. In the yard she does not dig and only chews on sticks and balls that she knows are hers. Due to her anxiety and light chasing, Mollie was started on an inexpensive medication that has made a tremendous difference.
As a puppy, Mollie did go to basic obedience training and knows many commands including sit, stay, come, down, heel, shake, kiss, speak, and lie down. When on a leashed walk, she does pull since there are so many new things to see and sniff! If a car ride is in order, she is a good passenger.
Mollie is fine when being brushed or having her ears and feet handled. She has always been home groomed and does like a break during the process; it’s such a long time for this active gal to stand still. Although she has no separation anxiety issues, Mollie will try to hide from thunderstorms.
This sweet, active senior would do really well in a rural setting with lots of room to run and interesting scents to sniff. Mollie would probably do well if placed in an adults-only home or where the children are older since that is what she is used to. How about sharing your love of life with Mollie?
