Update 5/20/06: With attention to her health needs and lots of TLC, Moka is improving in all the right ways. Between a soothing bath in dandruff shampoo and the nutritional supplements she is receiving, Moka’s skin is clearing up. Her coat is now soft and silky. She went to the groomer last week and is sporting a beautiful haircut of which she is quite proud. Her pink eye has responded to the drops, so she no longer has reddened eyes. And, perhaps best of all, the medication she is receiving for arthritis seems to be helping her. She is already exhibiting more energy!
Moka is a model citizen. She accompanied her foster family to the MAESSR picnic last weekend and was very friendly to all the other springer guests. She is a great companion and is looking forward to finding an adoptive family to love her and share their family picnics with her too!!!!!!
Original: Moka is a sweet, well-mannered Springer and has joined her foster family with ease. She adjusted quickly and gets along with the family’s 3 dogs and 1 cat. She is quite affectionate and will accept all the hugs and petting she is offered. Moka enjoys people of any age. With a moderate energy level, she enjoys walks around the yard and behaves well when on a leash. She stays very close to whichever member of the foster family takes her out and she comes when called.
Moka is a polite and mannerly lady too. Her food can be taken away mid-meal without any protest. She graciously accepts petting while eating. Moka sits and waits quietly when treats are being given to the other dogs. When it’s her turn, she accepts treats gently from the hand offering them. She is an excellent passenger in the car……she just curls up and goes to sleep.
This sweetie does not counter surf or chew and has had no accidents in the house. Moka will stay in a crate but prefers to be left out while the family is away. She is trustworthy and has been left alone up to 4 hours. The only “bad” habit her family has noticed is that she will beg while they are eating, so they are working with her on this point. When it comes to basic obedience, Moka knows the commands, “sit” and “come.” And, since she is so willing to learn, her family is working on “lay down” and “paw” with her too.
Moka was relinquished to MAESSR by her owner because she was not getting along with a resident Lab. She arrived with some minor health issues that needed attention, and all are very treatable. One is a case of pink eye that is improving with eye drops. Moka was also experiencing some pain in her hind legs, apparently from arthritis, and has been started on a medication to ease her symptoms. She is also receiving a supplement to promote an improvement in her skin. She takes her pills easily when wrapped in a blob of peanut butter and will be watched closely for progress.
Moka is very loyal and can be characterized as a couch potato. She would much rather have someone to sit beside for petting than to play a game of fetch. She is a lovable girl, a great companion and wants very much to be where her people are. She will make a great family dog or could be perfect for an older person. She’ll will be ready very soon………..will you?!?
