Original: Mojo is the sweetest, gentlest dog his foster mom has ever met. He is one of a group of 5 who were surrendered to MAESSR by a breeder in western Pennsylvania when she decided to downsize her breeding program. Mojo is in good health, but he is noticeably lean. He is enjoying two good meals a day in his foster home and is expected to fill out from his current 46 pounds to between 50 and 55 pounds. He has been neutered since coming to foster care and is recovering well.
Having lived mostly outdoors Mojo was very nervous about coming indoors when he arrived at his foster home. With patient guidance from his foster family, he is becoming much more comfortable inside. One of the first needs for Mojo was a bath. Indeed, he got two of them. Some initial diarrhea complicated his housetraining, but he is now progressing well. He is learning to “sit” also. For several days after his arrival, Mojo was crated when his family was away, but just in the last few days, he has had run of the house without any problems. At night he sleeps on the floor beside his foster mom’s bed.
Mojo is living with other dogs and cats in his foster home and gets along well with everyone. He has attached to his foster mom and follows her from room to room. He doesn’t even like to go outside unless she is with him. She has noticed that he does startle easily if there are loud voices close by or if someone pets him without warning. He just doesn’t seem to have an aggressive bone in his body, though, and will likely become more relaxed as he settles in.
When out on the leash with his foster mom, Mojo walks easily. He rides well in a car too. He has not met children since in foster care but is gentle with adults and does not jump up. Since he has always lived with other dogs, his foster mom feels he may be more content if there is a canine companion for him in his adopting home. He’s adjusting quickly to the comforts of indoor life and will only mellow as he ages. He will make an excellent companion for the new people in his life because in his foster mom’s words, “Mojo is just a joy.”
