Update 07/16/2016: “Thankfully, MAESSR was able to offer an alternative and she transitioned into a foster home with grace and ease.“
Months back when Mocha’s family could no longer care for her, she might otherwise have landed in a shelter with little prospect for adoption. Thankfully, MAESSR was able to offer an alternative and she transitioned into a foster home with grace and ease. Common age-related health issues were managed for her. She received all the care and loving attention that such a senior deserves and more. And so with her passing, she will also be missed. Godspeed, Mocha….so glad MAESSR could say “yes” to you.
Update 03/26/2016: “She loves sniffing around the woods and is always up for some squirrel watching or sunbathing.”
Mocha continues to do well for her age. Her family has found an anti-inflammatory that works and agrees with her system. That combined with some warm weather has put a bit of pep in this senior’s step. This poor lady has a history of yucky ears and, since she had a flare up recently, she is now enjoying, and, hopefully will benefit from a grain-free diet.
Mocha’s favorite thing to do is snuggle with human or dog; she is not picky! She also is excited when her family is getting ready to go to their “camp” and is a great traveler. She loves sniffing around the woods and is always up for some squirrel watching or sunbathing.
Mocha was recently moved to “Permanent Foster” status meaning she will remain in MAESSR’s care and stay with her current foster family. They are enjoying her company and remind all that seniors are the best!!
Update 02/03/2016: “This old girl is great on a leash since she doesn’t have the “spring” in her step that she undoubtedly had in her youth.“
Mocha’s foster mom hails her as a “very sweet old lady.” She is, however, a whiner…she whines (and sometimes barks) if her family is home but she’s separated from them, she whines to go out, and she whines for food. With that as her default method to voice a complaint, it has been more difficult than usual to evaluate her health.
Supplements seem to have helped her joint pain a little but Mocha still needs the anti-inflammatory medications, which cause occasional vomiting. She is very weak in her back end and she also has some shoulder pain. As it does for most folks of a certain age, cold weather makes her aches and pains worse. Rather than attempt the stairs, Mocha chooses to sleep downstairs without complaint. When sleeping, some fecal incontinence can occur, but her foster mom says that the solid nature of these “deposits” makes for easy clean up!
Mocha gets along with the other dogs in her foster home and competes with one for prime couch/snuggle spots. Although she is mostly deaf and has cataracts, it appears that she still has decent vision. When her foster family is out of the house Mocha is quiet, which was a pleasant surprise to them. This old girl is great on a leash since she doesn’t have the “spring” in her step that she undoubtedly had in her youth. She is great in the car, too, and loves to go to camp with her family.
MAESSR has given this sweet girl a wonderful foster home, but she would love that very special forever home. Is it yours?
Update 12/31/2015: “Consider this as a New Year’s resolution: Make a delightful new friend…Mocha! “
Additional health news for Mocha arrived before the New Year began. She is up-to-date on all of her vaccinations and this lovely girl is decidedly lighter than reported previously. This is good news since it will be beneficial for Mocha’s joint health to keep her at a desirable weight. She’s currently taking over-the-counter supplements as well as a medication to alleviate joint pain. Her foster family hopes to wean her off of the medication after the supplements have had time to do their magic.
Mocha is housetrained and does a little whine and dance when she needs to go out. She has not been crated in her foster home and is free to roam when her parents are home. When they are out, she is confined to the living room and kitchen. At night Mocha sleeps in the kitchen.
Consider this as a New Year’s resolution: Make a delightful new friend…Mocha!
Original: “So far, she hasn’t shown any interest in toys; her favorite pastime is snuggling!”
Mocha found herself in need of a new home when her Pennsylvania owner moved to a new location which didn’t allow pets. Faced with the prospect of her being sent to a shelter, MAESSER stepped in to help this sweet senior find a new family.
This lovely older girl is just precious. She loves everyone she’s met since joining her foster family, including some children she encountered when she joined her foster mom at her place of work. Mocha also gets along with the resident dogs.
As do most seniors, Mocha has a few age-related issues such as some joint discomfort, mild cataracts, and some hearing loss. She would do best without steps, although she merely ignores the stairs in her foster home. Mocha does not exhibit and food or resource guarding. So far, she hasn’t shown any interest in toys; her favorite pastime is snuggling!
Car rides are no problem for Mocha. She goes to her foster family’s camp and has adjusted like a champ. She has great leash manners and loves roaming around the fenced yard.
A bit of a talker, Mocha will whine if she thinks it’s time to eat, go out, or the water bowl is empty. She also whines a little when her foster parents leave but quickly settles down. Mocha does enjoy the comforts of furniture…smart girl!
Mocha is a lovely senior girl who just needs a soft place to spend her golden years. Consider ringing in the New Year with a delightful seasoned Springer who’s as sweet as her name.
