Misty and her sister Skylar were purchased as puppies in Pennsylvania so that the owners could use them for breeding. The owners did not completely understand the time, dedication and expenses associated with breeding, and it is unknown how many litters the sisters had. They were rescued by a wonderful family who didn’t want them spending all their time in a crate; however, the sisters would chase the resident cats. So, their new family had to contact MAESSR to help find each sister her perfect forever family that had no resident cats.
Misty gets along with the resident Springers one of whom is a 4 month old puppy who tries to drive her crazy with her puppy playfulness. She will give the puppy correction as needed but is very tolerant. She has no feeding issues. She was trained to eat in the crate and her foster parents have continued this practice as she is comfortable with it.
Both housetrained and crate trained, Misty has freedom in lower level of the house and is crated at night. Misty is pretty good about not begging for people food; she will go lie down once it is made clear that it is not hers. Misty has not tried to counter-surf but she has tried to trash pick when she gets a chance. She will steal anything ball shaped including the dryer balls but will give then up easily enough. Misty has hoarded some toys in her crate and this led to a potential problem with the puppy. Now her foster family closes both crates when not in use. Problem solved.
Misty need to work on her leash skills. She’s a bit of a puller; it seems she is so excited to see what she’s been missing after living in the kennel for all of those years. She has had some basic training with “sit,” “down,” and “come” in her repertoire. She love playing ball and fetching but she will shred plush toys.
This lap dog wannabe is still learning how to share space with people. At this point she will lie beside her people, but she will try to get in their face/space and must be corrected. She is getting much better and she will be a world class snuggler in no time at all.
A good girl at the vet, Misty was a trooper as she recovered from her spay surgery. Although she was initially cautious when meeting some male friends visiting her foster family, Misty soon turned into a love bug. Due to her being a bit pushy, her foster family would recommend that she be placed in a home with older children who are dog savvy. The family who adopts Misty need to be prepared to be smothered with love.
