Miss Joey came to MAESSR from a shelter in Virginia after her owner passed away.
A very quiet and well mannered lady, Miss Joey has been a gracious house guest. She does not counter-surf or get into the trash. Generally, she does not get up on furniture or laps, but when an elderly resident dog had to be put to sleep, she climbed into her foster mom’s lap to comfort her. This is a very caring and sensitive dog.
Completely housetrained and trustworthy, Miss Joey does not use a crate. Her foster home is equipped with a doggie door for easy access; however, Miss Joey will go to the door and stand there waiting for one of her people to let her out and back in. She sleeps on a large doggie pillow in the living room and at night on one in the bedroom. Although she loves the four adults in her foster home, she tends to stay by herself. She is a quiet and unassuming girl who does not need a ton of exercise to be happy.
Well-trained, Miss Joey knows the commands “sit,” “stay,” “paw,” and “down.” She enjoys going for a walk and meeting people and other dogs. And, her tail never seems to stop wagging! She isn’t a jumper or a barker, though. The only time her foster family heard her bark was when she saw ducks in a pond! Miss Joey really enjoys riding in the car, but she was a little nervous riding in her foster family’s RV. By the homeward trip, she settled down.
Miss Joey is currently living with five other dogs and is getting along fine with them; however, she doesn’t really play with them. She doesn’t play with toys, either, so resource guarding is not an issue. She is fine with people and dogs around her food bowl, too. At the vet’s office, Miss Joey met their resident cat that swiped at her. All she did in response was to turn and walk away. Good girl! So, it looks as if cats would not be an issue for Miss Joey. She has met a few children, too, since she has been in her foster home and was fine with them. Miss Joey most enjoys being alone with just her foster mom and dad, though.
A very good patient at the vet’s office, Miss Joey won the heart of her vet and his staff. Although she is generally in good health, the vet found a skin issue. He attributed the thin fur on her backside to a flea allergy and she is receiving antibiotics for this as a precaution. She is flea-free now so this problem should dissipate. She was very good during her exam and is fine with having her paws and ears handled.
Miss Joey would love to go to a quieter home with mature adults who will spend time with her. She thinks that it would be nice being an only dog so she could be doted on! She has lots of love to give in return!
