Original: Mickey is a sweet boy from Delaware who was relinquished to MAESSR because he would occasionally growl at the young son who lived in his home. Mickey never bit anyone, but the family felt it was safer to re-home him. Mickey is now living in a foster home with a six-year-old child and there have been no problems and no growling.
Mickey is very energetic when he is outside but settles nicely when indoors. The bird dog in this springer boy is very apparent. Mickey loves birds and, when he is outside, he loves looking around to see if he can find one. In his fenced yard, Mickey will bark at passing strangers, but he quiets down as soon as he is told. He will dig in the yard at times but he does not jump the fence.
Inside, his house manners are great! Mickey does not counter surf and he is respecting the house rules to stay off of the furniture unless he is invited up. He is a fun boy who just wants attention and to be with his people. He gladly cuddles with his foster parents while they watch television and he would even volunteer to take naps with them if he could just sleep on the bed!
Mickey knows basic commands including “sit,” “stay,” “come,” “down,” and “paw.” He may jump on people sometimes, but he is just happy to see them. Mickey was not leash walked by his former family, so his foster parents are working with him on this new behavior. Mickey does use a crate and spends about eight hours a day there while his foster parents are at work. He accepts his crate well and does not have separation anxiety when his people leave for the day. When his foster parents are at home, Mickey has full access of the house. He has found being a house dog has another perk, too, since he gets to ride in the car which he enjoys. Since he has been with his foster family, there has been inclement weather, but Mickey is not afraid of storms. Brave boy, Mickey!
Mickey would love a family that is active and wants to spend a lot of time with him. He is a great boy who needs a home with both structure and love. Will you be the person to provide this to Mickey?
