Mickey was rescued from the local shelter. He is so good with other dogs, cats and people in general that he is taken to work and is the official greeter at a veterinary practice. He lives with 3 dogs, two kids ages 13 and 10, and 5 cats. He loves his cats and sleeps with one of them! He is housetrained, does not jump on people, counter surf, bark excessively or chew. He loves rides in the car.
Mickey’s owners are reluctantly looking for a new home for him. They love him dearly but are unable to conquer his only flaw, he runs away. This takes him across a busy road, and they fear for his life. They have temporarily solved the problem by tying him to a cable outside. He is too smart for invisible fencing and they do not have regular fence and admit that he is not a fence jumper. Sometimes he will run across the street to a “halfway house” and spend the entire day with the residents there. They love him. Sometimes he runs away and is not seen for 3 days.
He has not had any formal obedience. The owners tried to teach him to come, but after three months of training on a leash, he could only be trusted for three days. He will come to get in the car! Mickey is smart and a little stubborn and in his previous life he must have decided that it is more fun to explore than to stay home. At the office he is loved by all and he enjoys his job but if the door is left open he will go exploring. Mickey needs a home (preferably with cats) with a fenced yard and someone who can spend the time to form a special bond with him.
