Original: Michelle was just pulled out of a shelter this weekend. She is a young field bred bitch. She was found tied to the door of the SPCA. We don’t know much about her yet. She is up to date on all of her shots, heartworm negative, and very friendly. She has greeted everyone she has met joyfully. She loves her temporary foster mom’s dog and likes to play. She starts shy and then takes off.
We’d like to keep her in foster care at least for a few weeks to see who she really is. But, we expect she will remain as wonderful as she has begun. We hope to have pictures this weekend.
UPDATE: April 13, 2000
I picked her up Saturday. She is very sweet and not dog aggressive. She got along well with my girls. My Beardie, Heather, snitted at her the other day, but she just hit the ground and looked startled. I scolded Heather and put her up. Then Michelle got up and went about her business and ran around the house. She likes my cat. He is not at all afraid of dogs, and she sniffed him and pestered him until he jumped down off the sofa. Then she ran around the couch to play with him. She does, however, pee in the house. I really have to watch her, even after I have let her out, she will still do it. And she does it either on my rugs or on the carpet, not on the hardwood floors. Tomorrow I am going to let her play with Parker, my 10 month male. He is so sweet, but so exuberant, so I want to see how she reacts to him. I wanted her to feel more at home before I introduce her to him. Also, she has tapeworms, so I am having her wormed.
UPDATE: From her adoptive mom:
Brandi is doing great. She has adjusted nicely and is a real treat to have in our family. We did have a bit of a problem getting her into her crate for two reasons I believe, one the crate was a bit too tight for her and two, she got sick in it on the way to MD. A larger crate and a bit of coaxing has seemed to solve the problem. We have also seemed to put a stop to her gulping her food. A baseball in the dish seems to do the trick and she playfully takes the ball out and plops it in her water dish when she is done – oh what a mess! She is doing well on the invisible fence and should be completely on it on her own by the middle of this week. She does seem a bit protective of her chew toys – more like a little bit of a hog as she likes to stockpile them up and guard them when Baxter our other dog would like one. She is easy to give one up but as soon as he shows the slightest disinterest she gets it and adds it back to the pile. She was the star of the show at obedience class last week and was not hesitant about being there. All in all we can’t complain – she is a wonderful girl!
