Update 10/29/04:
Maxwell, or to his friends, “Max”, is a very lucky boy. His mom was faced with a difficult decision. She found herself single again and moving to a more affordable apartment with no yard. She had to take on another job. This left Max being crated all day, then after a break and a meal, crated again for the evening. As much as his mom loved him, she knew this was not a good life for a 1 y.o. springer, and turned to MAESSR to find him a new home.
Max is a great example of a young springer male. He weighs about 40 pounds and is cute as can be. When he came into foster care, he was perfectly groomed, and in beautiful condition. He has plenty of energy, and loves to play. Play can be with people, dogs, tennis balls, toys, leaves, sticks, or anything else that gets his attention. He doesn’t descriminate.
Max was a little reserved at first with his new foster family, including a 5 y.o. male springer named Copper, a 10 y.o. female springer, Chelsea, and a 7 y.o. female lab, Abby. He made friends quickly, though, and within two days he felt settled in, and his personality began to bloom. With one play bow, he and Chelsea were buddies, chasing each other around the yard and house. After two skirmishes, Max and Copper had things worked out, and Abby, well, she just likes having company!
Max has been the perfect house guest. He is housebroken and doesn’t mind being crated while his foster family is at work. He has not raided the trash, counter surfed, or begged for food. He has not been food aggressive, and one can pick up his food bowl while he is eating. When the evening starts to wind down, Max has become a champ at getting his foster dad to snuggle with him on the couch while watching TV. After a few belly rubs, Max is snoozing away. He sleeps in the bedroom with all of his foster family.
Being young. Max still has some learning to do. He pulls a little on his leash when outside, but he’s working on that. When Max is excited, he jumps on people, but his foster dad is helping him with that too. Max barks to hurry supper along, but he is beginning to show increased patience. He gets to visit the local dog park to meet and play with more dogs. He is unknown at this time with cats and small children
There’s still a lot of “puppy” in Max. His foster dad thinks he is a real love bug who will make someone a very good companion. He will need a family who will complete his basic obedience with him, and then, be ready to enjoy the energy and entertainment that a young springer has to share.
