Max is a great boy. After six weeks in a shelter, he was visibly relieved when brought into his foster home. You could see he was really happy to be in a house. He has met several other dogs already and has done just fine with them. He does like to jump a bit, but can be trained not to do that.
Max is a big boy at 60 pounds, but not fat, just big. He pulls on a leash but can be trained not to do that as well. He is a bit clingy, which is a pretty common characteristic in dogs who are in a shelter for a long time. His foster mom had to work last night and left Max loose in the house. He was very well behaved, no accidents, no chewing, just a joyful greeting on her return. He ate breakfast and went outside for everything. He is a really great boy who will do well in any home.
Max loves to be brushed. He did not mind me working on his ears. He decided that he would lay down and let me get his underside also! I cut the hair from between his pads and he loved the attention. This rain is really hard on three dogs. He will pick the ball up and throw it around, a form of self entertainment, or was it to make me feel bad? He is trying to be a bit dominant, but the other dogs will have no part of it and he backs down. He knows who the real Alpha dog is around here.
He does not chew and is always housebroken. He likes to be close to me when possible and will whine when I leave the room. He is a good boy with a great deal of energy. He would love to have a human to play ball with! He has his favorite spot on the floor, and does not bother the furniture. He has not completely figured out that I am the boss, but he is learning. It may be that he is starving for attention more than anything else.
Update:
From Max’s foster mom:
Max, Trooper, and I just got back from a long ball playing session in the field. Max loves to play ball! He will bring it back and throw it at your feet for more play. Max did mark in my house once, of course it was the same place that my other fosters have marked in the past. The pillars in the dining room sure look like trees to my furry four legged friends. Since that time, Max has been a complete gentleman. He likes to stay close and touch when possible. Two of my neighbors have complimented Max on his good looks! He is a tall Springer and weighs in at 58 pounds!
Update:
From Max’s adoptive mom:
Max is WONDERFUL!!! He IS such a big boy—but such a BIG sweetheart and his temperament is absolutely perfect!!! I’m very surprised at how “adaptable” he is. He adjusted very well to the move. Max is very comical, as well-he has “Springer” quirkiness about him. I just adore him and am glad he is here and I think he is happy and thankful!!
Thank you for all your help and making this possible. Max and I are very happy.
