Original: “Maverick just wants to be with his people and get lots of love.”
Maverick came to MAESSR when his original owner from Pennsylvania passed away, and he and his brother Ranger were returned to the breeder who rehomed them. Without a fenced yard, Maverick wasn’t getting enough exercise and reportedly was not getting along with the resident dogs. So, the decision was made to look for a more suitable home through MAESSR.
Maverick has proved himself to be a very good boy in his foster home so he is given full freedom in the house. He displays no separation anxiety when his foster parents are gone from home. In his previous home he was crated when owner was at work. He is reliably housetrained. Although he does not counter-surf, he will watch when someone is eating but would never try to grab food from visiting children.
This affectionate boy loves people – even younger ones- but he has not been tested with infants and toddlers. Reportedly, he was good with 5- and 11-year-old grandchildren who would come to see their grandparents in his previous home. He does not guard food or toys, either. Good boy, Maverick!
Maverick would chase the cat in the previous house but would back off when she hissed at him. He would be happiest in a home where he could live with a female dog since he gets jealous when another male dog is getting attention. It does not turn into an actual fight, but there is growling and snarling at the other dog(s).
Although Maverick had no formal training, he responds appropriately to the commands “sit,” “stay,” and “come.” He walks well on lead and rides well in the car. Maverick is good at the groomer and his foster mom can touch him all over. Since he was in foster care during the July 4 holiday, his foster parents can attest that he is not afraid of loud noises!
Maverick just wants to be with his people and get lots of love. He is so sweet and loving! His only negative is that he just wants to be an only dog. Is this your dream dog?
