Update 04/08/2014: “Like Mary Poppins, Mattie is ‘practically perfect in every way.'”
Mattie continues to come out of her shell and is interacting more everyday with her foster family, even the four footed ones…she’s even started wiggling her little butt! Efforts to engage the other foster dogs to play with her have failed, as the other two fosters do not play. Her foster mom feels that Mattie would run and play with another dog that was willing.
This little girl is beginning to come to one member of the family for attention and has started sleeping in this person’s room at night. If the door is closed when Mattie decides to retire, she will scratch the door very gently until she’s let in. She then sleeps all night without a problem.
The vet extracted a couple of Mattie’s teeth that were in bad shape, so eating is no longer a problem. She can eat kibble now, although she still enjoys getting a little canned food mixed in.
Everything this little lady does is gentle, from playing with the very small children to giving the sweetest little kisses. Her house manners continue to be perfect.
Mattie’s foster mom has helped many dogs that have been fostered in her home and has never found one to be as sweet as Mattie. In fact, if she were not already caring for two permanent foster dogs, this little cutie would find a home there, too. Like Mary Poppins, Mattie is “practically perfect in every way.” Is there room in your life for a devoted companion who will love you unconditionally? Then Mattie’s the girl for you!
Original: “She will come as soon as she is called and is learning to use the doggie door to let herself back into the house—what a smart gal!”
Mattie came to MAESSR when her Virginia family could no longer take care of her. She is a very sweet, shy girl who just needs a lot of love. For the first few days in her foster home, she spent most of her time on a dog bed, just watching the daily activity. More recently, she has begun to interact with her foster family and explore her surroundings.
This beautiful senior has no major health issues although she will be seeing a dentist as she seems to have trouble eating. Yummy canned food is mostly her diet for now. She does receive medication for leaking urine which has been effective.
Mattie is housetrained; she has had no accidents in the home, but does not yet ask to go out. Once outside, she spends as much time in the yard as allowed, exploring and rolling in the grass. She will come as soon as she is called and is learning to use the doggie door to let herself back into the house—what a smart gal! Toys don’t seem to interest her yet but that may change.
Her house manners are nothing short of perfect. No counter-surfing, trash diving or furniture climbing for this girl. She sleeps on a doggie bed in the living room at night. Mattie does not seem to have many tricks in her book just yet and she needs to brush up on some as she is not responding to “sit” or “lie down” currently. She does pull on the leash when being walked, but her foster mom feels this may be something Mattie has not been used to doing for a long while and that her walking manners will get better with time.
Mattie is still a little reserved and is just beginning to get involved in a few family activities such as coming when called for dinner or to get a treat, but this little girl loves the attention she is getting in her foster home—she just wants to be loved. Do you have some extra love to pass out for a shy little girl? Mattie may be just the one for you!
