Original: “Mattie has made wonderful progress in decreasing her anxiety but will need a family that will handle her with love, firmness, and patience.”
Mattie came to MAESSR after being found as a stray in Kansas. Shelter workers were concerned because she was scared of everything and would occasionally snap at a person out of fright. Another rescue group pulled her from the shelter and began working with her. A lot of work had been put into Mattie prior to her coming to MAESSR and it was felt we may be able to help with her anxiety and find a home willing to continue working with this sweet girl on expanding her horizons.
Quite a love-bug with wonderful house manners, Mattie loves to get on the furniture or crawl in bed with her foster parents, snuggling down to sleep. She is also crate trained, but much prefers to have free roam of the house. Mattie walks well on a leash and likes to ride in the car.
Never having had a full grooming prior to coming to her foster mom, Mattie was a bit skittish about it but quickly calmed down when she realized she got LOTS of treats while being groomed. Her foster mom was even able to trim the hair between the pads of her feet. What a good girl, Mattie!
Mattie needs a family that has the time and patience to continue working with her to decrease and then eliminate her anxiety. She has made wonderful progress but will need a family that will handle her with love, firmness, and patience. About 98.5 % of the time, Mattie’s behavior is perfect. She just has moments when she is scared. These moments have become less and less frequent.
If you are looking for a great snuggler, Mattie is the girl for you.
