Original: “His vet commented, ‘Mate is a sweet boy who will make a great senior companion for someone.’ “
Mate came to MAESSR from North Carolina because of some behavioral issues that developed in his home with the wife of the family.
He was moved to one of MAESSR’s more experienced foster home to evaluate his behavior to see if he can be adopted. He has been perfect so far– except for a little counter-surfing. He managed to get the last part of a loaf of bread off of the center island with his foster mom standing about 3 feet away! He can be fast when he wants to!
Mate recently went to the vet to be neutered and get updated on all vaccines. He had conjunctivitis in his eye which has since been treated and he feels better now. The vet x-rayed his hips and determined he has hip dysplasia in his left hip. To help his joints, Mate has been started on a supplement and he will need to continue on a quality supplement for the rest of his life. From the way he gets around, you would swear that he was a lot younger than 11 and that he had no problems with his hips!
This handsome senior also got groomed recently. His coat was long and curly, so he needed a new “do” for the summer. He was good at the groomer except that he did not like his front paws messed with and he was a little head shy. He would be cooperative for home grooming, though, since he loves a bath.
Mate is housetrained and is good with other dogs and children. The verdict is out on cats since there are none in his foster home. When his foster parents are not home, Mate goes into his crate to await their return. .
Good on leash, Mate can also be trusted off leash. He responds to the commands “sit,” “down,” “come,” and “heel.” This mate rides well in the car, too.
Outside, Mate likes to play ball and is respectful of the boundaries of a fence. When a storm is brewing, he heads for the house as he is afraid of thunder. Generally, he likes to be inside.
His vet commented, “Mate is a sweet boy who will make a great senior companion for someone.”
