Update 08/10/2004Marshall is a changed dog! When he first came into foster care he had no energy, he lost his appetite, was struggling with stairs and sleeping all the time. Marshall was given antibiotics for his kennel cough and now he is well and truly on the mend!!
Marshall just wants to be hugged and petted constantly and sits down in front of everyone he meets (men, women, children) requesting some attention. Marshall is now completely housebroken and can be trusted alone in the house for over 8 hours. He does get very upset if left alone in his crate. He is not hyper, doesn’t chew, doesn’t counter surf and doesn’t get in the trash, so a crate is probably not necessary for this boy. He does however like to sleep on the furniture when no one is looking. Marshall is very good on the leash and will come when called and so will probably be fine off leash. He is submissive to his foster brother and friendly with the other dogs that he meets. Marshall is just starting to show an interest in squirrels, he hasn’t tried to chase any of the neighborhood cats yet but he has been very interested in their scent.
Marshall’s new family might have to give some serious thought about changing his name. Marshall just doesn’t suit this gentle Springer whose soul purpose in life is to be petted as often as possible! He is the worst guard dog and hardly ever barks. Marshall is a bit of a grunter though and can make some cute purr-like sounds! Growling is not in his vocabulary.
As you can see in his photos, his bottom two canines are cracked and very worn. His dew claws stick out A LOT, but they don’t seem to bother him. Marshall is strong enough for surgery now and he will be neutered in the near future.
Marshall is looking for a forever home that will not get bored of a dog who will continuously just plant himself in front of you and beg to be hugged!! Whoever is lucky enough to add Marshall to their family will be rewarded with a very loving companion.
Original:
Marshall came from an extremely overcrowded shelter in PA after being picked up as a stray. He didn’t even have the luxury of being inside and spent two weeks in an outside run. His foster family couldn’t stand the smell of him for their drive home and immediately stopped and had him bathed! The rest of the ride was was much better for everyone! He is now safely in foster care and is proving to be an extremely affectionate sweetheart.
Marshall is underweight and is currently being treated for kennel cough. He is very grateful to his foster family for rescuing him and is slowly coming out of his shell as he gains more energy. He LOVES people (yes, even the vet) and is always craving a hug or back rub – this guy has not been loved very much in his life so far and now he is making up for it! Marshall marked the house 5 times on the first day and is quickly learning to do his business outside. He knows sit, does not get in the trash and does not counter surf. He will gladly get in his crate on command, but gets very distressed if left alone in his crate. His foster family is working with him to relieve his anxiety.
Marshall was likely an indoor dog at some point but he has probably spent at least the last couple years outside because his coat is bleached from the sun and his paws and chest are stained yellow. But even so, he is a very handsome boy and his foster mom was recently chased down by a passer-by wanting to know what breeder her beautiful Springers came from – both the resident ESS and Marshall were strays! Unfortunately, she couldn’t persuade the admirer to consider adoption!
Marshall has a lovely nature, he is good with other dogs, is completely submissive to the resident male ESS and is not food aggressive. So far he has not shown any interest in chasing the neighborhood cats and squirrels, but he’s a Springer, so this may change when he’s fully recovered!
Marshall will be neutered when he’s gained some more strength. Please think good thoughts for Marshall and check back for his updates.
