Original: “He already has learned a fun ‘touch’ game which has him guess the hand that does NOT have the treat in it.”
Through no fault of his own, Marley found himself in need of a new home when his owners separated. MAESSR was asked to step in to find this sweet Pennsylvania boy a new family.
A typical three year old Springer, Marley has lots of energy and love to give. Although high-energy, this boy is not hyper. He gets along with the resident senior Springer and the senior permanent foster. It did take a couple of days, however, since the seniors were not having a youngster’s shenanigans. After putting Marley in his place, all is peaceful now. Marley has tried to engage the resident male in play, but he gets overly excited and rowdy so the older boy says, “No, thanks!” He has no eating or guarding issues and he eats in the same room with the resident dogs.
Reportedly Marley is a hunter, so his foster family is looking into that. This boy is smart and learns quickly. His foster parents have discovered that he knows the commands “sit,” “down,” “roll over,” “no,” and “get down.” He already has learned a fun “touch” game which has him guess the hand that does NOT have the treat in it. When he guesses correctly, he gets the treat…a great game to keep a dog occupied and perhaps distracted from unwanted behaviors.
Housetrained, Marley goes to the door to signal the need to go out; if ignored, he will let his foster parents know! His family is working on appropriate leash manners with him; he has not yet been unleashed outside of his yard. Marley loves the fenced yard which allows him to chase birds and squirrels; however, he’s always respectful of the fence boundaries. Inside the house Marley thinks just about any toy is fun, and he particularly enjoys his green alligator.
Marley hates the crate so it was with great concern that his foster parents left him home alone with the resident dogs the first time…but, Marley was a very good boy. They suspect that he might try a little counter-surfing since he’s young and loves to explore everything and everywhere. The trash, however, is kept inaccessible to all of the canines. When his parents are gone Marley has access to the downstairs; when they are home, he has free-roam. His foster parents are sad to report that Marley is a pro at sneaking into bed with them as he’s very stealthy. And, he does get on the furniture. So far, Marley has been a perfect young gentleman, exhibiting no inappropriate chewing or marking in the house.
This boy loves to meet people. When excited Marley does jump up, but he really tries to keep his paws on the floor…it’s just hard to remember all of the time! He’s a great traveler, too, and loves to go for rides. On a visit to some of his family’s friends, Marley met some tolerant cats. He was very interested but not aggressive. Given the opportunity, his foster mom suspects that Marley could live amicably with a feline.
There are no problems with handling Marley’s feet and ears. The only problem with grooming him might be keeping this active boy still until the job is done.
Marley is a sweet young boy who needs an active home and a family that will keep him busy physically and mentally. His new family will be paid back in love like only a Springer can give.
