Original:
Marley came to MAESSR due to his aggressive behavior toward the senior Springer in his Virginia home. His foster mom quickly realized that this pushiness comes from resource guarding food against other dogs. With training from his foster parents, Marley has done very well with curbing this behavior, but his new family needs to be aware that it can happen. Marley does not guard his food from people, only from other dogs and, oddly, not all the time. Although he has a preference for female dogs, Marley will tolerate most males, but the resource guarding of food will need to continue to be worked on.
Gentle and loving with the people in his life, Marley has shown no aggression to humans and loved to play with the seven and ten year old children in his former household. He is a lover boy that likes to sleep in the bed with his people, if possible, but will settle for a dog bed in the same room. Marley is crate-trained, but does not have to be crated. Housetrained and trustworthy, he has free roam in his foster home. He also rides well in the car.
Marley was wonderful at the groomer and the vet. He is being treated for ear infections in both ears and is very compliant when the drops are administered. Good boy, Marley!
A real water baby, Marley loves water and plays in the kiddie pool at his foster home daily. He also loves going for walks and does not pull on the leash. He came into foster care with a sound repertoire of commands, responding to “wait,” “sit,” and “down” and he waits to be released until his person says, “Okay.” If he is excited, he will periodically jump up on people in his enthusiasm to say hello! He will bark when someone comes to the door but then will be quiet once the visitor is acknowledged.
Marley is looking for his own family to love him, train him, and give him lots of exercise!
