Bonded siblings Manni and Amelia had lived with their Pennsylvania owner since they were puppies. Manni was the first to arrive and two years later, his owner went back to the same breeder to get Amelia; the duo share the same mother. Recently, the owner accepted a new job which required him to relocate. Since, unfortunately, he could not take his beloved Springers with him, he relinquished them to MAESSR knowing a wonderful new home would be found for them.
Manni loves people and actually had a cat best friend who slept on top of him. The original owner reported he has never shown aggressive behavior toward anyone and was good with the neighbor’s children. His foster mom is working on some food aggressive behavior toward the resident elderly female. Manni and Amelia initially wanted to chase the resident herd of goats but learned in a week that this was not acceptable behavior! They do feel the chickens, ducks, and guineas on their foster mom’s farm are fair game and convincing them otherwise is a work in progress.
Manni is housetrained and crate trained and stays in his foster mom’s home alone when she is away without any problems. He is not allowed on furniture. Despite the fact that he has his own dog bed, he often chooses to sleep with Amelia on the same bed in their foster parents’ bedroom at night.
He does bark when he hears unfamiliar noises but is adjusting to life and noises in the country. He is fairly good about stopping barking when given a firm “no.” He does not dig, submissively urinate, counter-surf, or jump on people. Reportedly, he does not like thunderstorms, but that reaction has not been tested in his foster home.
Handsome knows and generally obeys the commands of “sit,” “stay,” “come,” and “slow” and also responds to hand signals. He walks well—with Amelia–on the leash–and can be trusted off leash except around birds. This well behaved gent will not run away when let outside. His foster mom can let him out to potty and rely on him to be waiting in the garage or the front porch a little while later. He rides quietly in the car with no apparent anxiety and is now used to riding around the farm on his foster mom’s Kawasaki Mule—when in the country….
Manni loves to run and play and is a strong swimmer—reportedly he also loves to ride a jet ski! He enjoys being groomed and has learned to willingly go in his foster mom’s dog shower after hiking or swimming.
What a fun guy this Springer is!! He’s looking for an owner to take him walking, hiking, swimming, riding or boating and would definitely like to have his step-sister along for company. Summer’s coming and Manni will be looking forward to the world of fun that comes with it.
