When her elderly Pennsylvania owners could not keep up with such an energetic puppy, Mandy became a MAESSR pup.
Mandy did not have much socialization with other dogs or much of the outside world in her original home; however, she is learning that playing with dogs at puppy day care and exploring the great outdoors are great fun. She is having so much fun that she is dubbed the Energizer Springer by her foster mom! This puppy is very, very smart and loves her toys especially the ones that magically eject food when she plays with them! She does no resource guarding of her toys or food. Good girl! Mandy loves people and does very well with adults and teenagers in her foster home. She even behaved nicely when meeting a four-year-old child. With her little wiggle butt going a mile a minute, Mandy lavishes kisses on all people she meets.
With some previous obedience training, Mandy knows commands such as “sit,” “down,” and “stay” and she is learning “watch me.” Like all puppies, she needs basic obedience training. MAESSR only places puppies in homes that are committed to training and bonding with the pup in obedience classes. Puppies require a lot of care, attention, and patience, and they do chew on things! The decision to get a puppy and raise it to be a healthy, happy, and well-adjusted dog is a serious commitment. To reinforce this commitment, MAESSR requires all adopters of dogs under one year old to enroll their puppy in obedience classes within 60 days of adoption.
Completely housetrained and now crate-trained, Mandy sleeps in her crate at night and when her foster family is out of the house. Learning house manners is important for all puppies as Mandy is finding out. Although she does not counter-surf, she is keen to see what is on the counter. After all, there might be something delicious up there that her foster mom might give her! Both in the house and outside, Mandy is not much of a barker, but she does like to dig in the backyard. Leash training takes practice and Mandy’s foster mom is proud to say she is seeing improvement in this cutie’s leash walking skills, especially since Mandy has been wearing a harness. When a trip somewhere is on the agenda, Mandy rides well in a car, but she is limited to the very back of her foster mom’s SUV.
Mandy was checked out at the vet and is in excellent shape. Although she had been diagnosed as being Lyme positive but asymptomatic, she has completed her treatment. She has also visited the groomer and, although she was not crazy about it, she handled it well.
Soon Mandy will be ready for her forever home. Do you have the love and commitment to give this little girl?
