Original: In the spring of this year, Mandee was abandoned by her New York owner while with a groomer. A second family stepped in to rescue her but sought MAESSR’s care in placing her after she and a resident male did not adapt to one another. The relinquishing family knew Mandee was a good girl who needed a different family to be a success.
This beauty is a loving, sweet girl. She is housebroken and goes to the door when she needs to go out. She knows the basic obedience commands. She has great house manners; she doesn’t counter-surf or trash-dive. Mandee is completely trustworthy and has the rule of the house. As far as riding in the car, Mandee is perfect. She settles quietly into the back seat and stays there for the trip. She sleeps next to her mom’s bed at night.
Mandee is timid but friendly toward all visitors. Submissive urination has happened on a couple of occasions in her foster home, but only when visitors used a high-pitched tone of voice. It is expected this will disappear after a little more time to get comfortable in her new home. She is a Velcro dog in every sense of the word. She is always looking for attention, which sometimes includes a brief grumble or bark. Her foster mom is working on this and also on Mandee’s fear of thunderstorms. Her foster mom has countered stormy weather by making it playtime.
A surprise with Mandee is that she is not especially fond of walks; however, she is taken for a short walk daily in hopes that increasingly good experiences will brighten her outlook when the leash comes out. Despite this, she is good off and on-leash and stays close to her foster mom.
Mandee had to leave her surrendering family due to a conflict with the older resident male Springer. However, she seems to be friendly with other dogs, except for one occasion of food guarding. She completely ignores other dogs barking at her. At the vet’s, she was curious about a cat in a kennel but showed no signs of aggression.
Of all her toys, the squeaky ones are Mandee’s favorites. Her favorite pastime is to play catch with her squeaky blue ball in the back yard. She also loves ear rubs, massages and butt scratches, but what Springer wouldn’t?
An ideal home for Mandee would be one in which there are no other dogs, and the owners can spend a lot of time with her. In every aspect, Mandee would make a terrific addition.
