Update 01/12/12:
The latest news on Miss Mallory has arrived! She was a very good girl while visiting with the vet recently. At 29 pounds, she has gained weight and is in perfect health. At home, she has settled well but does keep her foster family on their toes with her countersurfing skills. They are working on this with her; she is making progress but may do best in an adopting home where countertops just aren’t so enticing!
Mallory is almost ready for a family of her own and will make someone a perfect little companion. She is an energetic fieldie with some growing to do, both physically and mentally. With loving people to guide her way, she will be a complete success with her new beginning.

What led to this twenty pound, young Springer ending up as a stray in a Pennsylvania shelter is not known; however, Mallory is now happy and safe and loved in her MAESSR foster home.
Housetrained, Mallory goes to the door when she needs to go out. She is also crate trained and, when her foster family leaves the house, she willingly goes into her crate and is a good girl there until they return. Good girl, Mallory! At night she either sleeps with her foster parents in their bed or she sleeps on a living room chair with one of the resident dogs.
There are some other house manners that need polishing, though. Mallory gets the award for being the worst counter-surfer and trash-diver that her mom has ever fostered! Her entire foster family is working with her to correct these behaviors and to assure her that she will be given adequate food without having to help herself. Like the resident dogs, Mallory is allowed on the furniture.
Since Mallory is just one, she will need to be taken to obedience lessons by her forever family as required by MAESSR. She is a smart puppy and already knows how to “sit.” When she is on a leash, she is ready to go and does pull. So, training in leash walking is a work in progress. When she meets people on her walks, Mallory sometimes ignores them and sometimes gets so excited that she wants to jump on them. When it comes to car rides, Mallory is more than willing to go along since she loves to ride in the car! She prefers to co-pilot next to her driver.
Still all puppy, Mallory loves to play with toys; she also likes to destroy them! Besides playing with her toys, Mallory love to play and wrestle with the resident dogs with whom she gets along very well. She has gotten the nickname “Tumblelina” because of the summersaults she turns when playing with them! Mallory also loves when people come to visit. One relative even holds her like a baby and Mallory goes to sleep in her arms! What a sweetheart! This good girl is not toy or food aggressive at all.
Grooming is a mixed bag for Mallory. Although she loves to be brushed and does not mind having her ears cleaned, she is not keen on having her toes clipped.
This high-energy, love-muffin pup is looking for a forever home committed to providing her with the love, exercise, and training she needs. She would benefit from having other dogs in her new household to play with, too. Mallory will be a great addition to an active family!
