Original: “For outside fun she loves chasing a ball or Frisbee, but the games are decidedly one-sided since she doesn’t return the objects thrown to her.”
Maggie came to MAESSR from a family that was fostering her for another rescue group. Everything was fine until a smaller dog accidentally brushed up against Maggie’s sore paw. She reacted by biting the small dog. A second altercation occurred again with the same dog. There were no witnesses to determine the precipitating event, but it became clear that the dogs needed to be separated.
In her MAESSR foster home Maggie is good with the other big dogs and she does not guard resources; there are no small dogs in the home. She also is good with cats and, when prompted to do so by her foster family, is adept at shooing the cat downstairs if her help is required.
While it is unknown how she would react to children, Maggie is a Velcro girl to the adults in her foster home. She had been described as being starved for attention; it’s obvious that this girl loves being around people and is so happy to have human attention. If her people are inside the house, then that’s exactly where Maggie wants to be. She’s happy to sit on a sofa to cuddle and she loves to sleep in bed with her people.
Maggie is fully housetrained and, because she is trustworthy, is fine having full roam of the house for long periods when her family is out. She has not been exposed to the crate and has not needed one. This good girl does not bark, dig, chew inappropriately, jump a fence, counter-surf or beg for food…although she’s on high alert during food preparation. There is no submissive urination upon greeting her people, although she will jump up to show her delight… she’s just gentle doing so.
Reportedly Maggie has no formal training, but she responds to “sit,” “come,” and “stay.” She walks well on a leash, is trusted off leash, and loves to ride in a car. While thunderstorms don’t seem to bother her, Maggie finds it necessary to bark at the noisy vacuum cleaner that invades her space.
When it comes to grooming, Maggie is all for it…having no issues with someone handling her ears or feet. Inside her home, Maggie likes to carry her stuffed toy around with her. For outside fun she loves chasing a ball or Frisbee, but the games are decidedly one-sided since she doesn’t return the objects thrown to her. Like many Springers, Maggie loves to swim!
Just a girl that’s looking for love, Maggie will be best matched with a family with no small dogs. A house with adults only will be best for her at this time since she has not been exposed to children while in MAESSR’s care. Maggie should be ready for her forever family soon. Ask about having this well-behaved sweetheart join yours.
