Maggie was adopted out of a shelter in Pennsylvania back in January only to be returned shortly thereafter because she and the resident Aussie Shepherd did not get along. The shelter sought MAESSR’s help to find a permanent home for this sweet little gal.
Maggie arrived at her foster home sporting a very thick, shaggy coat, making her body look disproportionate to her head. After a bath and haircut, a very pretty, petite Springer emerged. She has allowed her foster parents to touch her all over with no problems; however, when her foster mom tried to clip her very long nails, she curled her lip a few times so her foster mom stopped. At her vet visit, Maggie weighed in at 38 lbs. She was wonderful until it came time for a nail clipping. For the safety of everyone, she was muzzled, but she never growled or snapped. She and the resident young male Springer get along very well. There have been no issues whatsoever.
Maggie is housebroken but is crated during the day while her foster parents are at work. She prefers to sleep in her crate at night, at some point getting up to sleep on a soft dog bed in her foster parents’ bedroom. This girl loves furniture and will get on sofas at any chance. She will get down when told to but will hop back up when no one is looking. This has been hard to curb since the resident springer is allowed on furniture. She should probably be placed in a home where her people wouldn’t mind sharing their sofa or bed with her.
She knows basic commands, but will pull on a leash. Maggie becomes one with the ground when it comes time for car rides, but settles down fairly quickly once underway. Maggie loves balls, catching them mid-air and bringing them back to you. This girl cannot have enough! She will rummage through the toy basket until she finds a ball, bypassing all other toys. She will also catch Frisbees in mid-air and does a good job at keep-away when the resident Springer tries to take the Frisbee away from her.
Maggie does well with children but seemed skittish when the six-year-old neighbor girl approached her. She loves the twelve-year-old neighbor boy who comes over daily to play with her. Maggie is not aggressive in any way and will allow her foster parents to remove items from her mouth.
This is a very sweet girl who wants to be loved!
