Update 11/30/07: With more time to settle in her foster home, Maggie’s personality continued to emerge. She was not adapting well and, sadly, it became clear that she would not be suitable for adoption.
Original: Maggie is looking for a new home because she was growling at the 18-month-old toddler that was in her original home since he became mobile. Nothing is known about Maggie’s early history because her family adopted her from a shelter about four years ago.
When she visited the vet, he found her ears to be infected. Maggie also was favoring her right front foot. The vet removed a large matt from this paw and found the skin inflamed underneath. The vet gave her medications for all of these ailments and she is being nursed along in her foster home, recuperating nicely. Maggie has a few other lumps and bumps, but her teeth are in great shape and her eyes are generally clear with just one showing a little sign of age-related clouding. A bit pudgy, Maggie needs to lose at least 10 pounds, so no more extra treats for this girl for a while!
Maggie’s original family reported that she doesn’t like car rides. Her foster mom found that she stood and drooled on her trip to the vet. This behavior can sometimes be changed with more frequent short fun trips. When it comes to eating, Maggie is food possessive and is definitely a dominant girl. She will grumble at other dogs and people if they come near her when she is eating or drinking. At this point, Maggie is ignoring the other dogs at her foster home. Maggie is housebroken, although she did need a few days to learn her foster home’s routine. The foster home hasn’t tried Maggie in a crate yet.
Maggie would do well in a home where there is not another alpha female. She might even like to be an only dog, although she could live with a submissive canine companion. Could this be the pretty senior Springer that you are looking for?
