Original: Maggie is a spirited Springer! She came into MAESSR’s care from a shelter in central West Virginia. Upon arrival in her foster home, Maggie met the three family dogs and liked them immediately. She gets along well with the family cat too. With people Maggie is affectionate and will curl up in a lap if it is offered. She prefers to sleep on the bed with her foster parents although they have been trying to break her of this habit.
Maggie is a fast runner and loves to engage in games of fetch. She would play all day if given the opportunity. Soccer and tug-o-war are favorite games with the family’s 20-month-old Springer and her foster sister. Maggie also loves to prance around the house with toys.
Maggie’s got a great start on basic obedience. She knows “sit” and will also “shake” when asked. She comes when called. Her family is teaching her to lay “down” and to “stay.” She walks well on a leash without pulling and is beginning to heel as well.
House manners are being shaped. Maggie is an expert counter surfer. Her foster family is working hard to teach her not to do this. Maggie’s jumping abilities are also a problem. She often jumps on furniture, or people when they enter the house but does get down when corrected. Maggie is also quite the beggar! Her family does not feed her from the table and is training her to lay down when they are eating.
When Maggie first arrived, she had a few accidents, but once the family tuned into her habits, the accidents stopped. While both of Maggie’s foster parents work, she is left at home in a safe room with the resident Springer. She has been left up to 5 hours and has not had any accidents. Maggie is a good eater and shows no aggression when food is taken away from her. Dinner hour, however, is the only time that a growl might be heard from Maggie. The growl is directed at one of the other dogs when they get too close. The warning stops with a growl. She has never snapped or bitten the other dogs.
Maggie is a very good girl! She has a tail that is always wagging. She loves to be petted and snuggled. She responds well to quiet voices. Maggie has no trouble relating to people of any age. She rolls her belly up to just about everyone! Maggie has a quick licking tongue and will wash the face of anyone that will allow it. Maggie will be the perfect addition for any family that wants a loving and loyal dog. She is a super companion and friend. She is very smart and will learn quickly if taken to an obedience class. Maggie is a sweet Springer and can’t wait to be placed with her forever family!
