Maggie went to her forever home!
Original:
Maggie is a gorgeous nice-sized female weighing in at a very muscular 52 pounds. She is taller and bigger than her male foster brothers. She knows how to lay down, sit and she is crate-trained. She currently is sleeping in her crate overnight.
Maggie came from a couple who thought she was not trainable and just the opposite is true. She was thought not to be housetrained and to have very bad habits. She has been in her foster home for several weeks now and she has had only 1 accident and that was within the first few days of her stay. She listens well, and will not pull on the leash while walking as long as she is told not to and is made to listen. The former owners thought that she was not very bright- however, we feel just the opposite about that as well. We think she is very bright and needs some proper instruction/direction and lots of positive, loving reinforcement. She does very well with other dogs- however, she will growl if she has a bone, hoof, or rawhide when they try to approach or if a person tries to approach to take it from her. She is being corrected for that behavior, but her future owners need to be aware that she is a bit dominant that way.
Maggoe does not chase the cat and seems to know what the outcome of that would be. She is the only dog in the household that does seem to understand how that works. She also does not like to have her nails done at the groomers and will be snippy about that. Her foster mom knew this from the previous owner so she informed my groomer ahead of time so it was not problematic. She was muzzled for the grooming. She also did not like it when the mats were removed, but then who would?
Outside of those couple of minor issues, her tail wags all of the time and she is a little energy ball. Because of her exuberance and size, we don’t think placement with young children would be a good idea. We think she would do best with older children and adults. Also, her territorial nature with toys may be problematic for young children.
We think part of the problem in her previous environment was lack of sufficient exercise. She is being walked daily in her foster home and has ample opportunity to run several times a day in a very big yard, in addition to getting one on one attention regarding basic obedience and household rules.
We don’t think she would do well in a situation without a commitment to regular exercise. Based on her response to the pheasants and rabbits on the property we think she would make a very good hunting companion.
Maggie is a very affectionate girl who loves to give lots of kisses. If you need more love in your house, this is the girl for you…
