When Macy’s owner was incarcerated, she was relinquished to a Pennsylvania shelter. The folks at the shelter had worked with MAESSR before and made contact, knowing she’d get a good home. After two weeks in her foster home, she had an incident where she broke out of her crate while the foster folks were away and made a bit of a mess. She switched foster homes for further evaluation and to get her spay and remaining vet work done.
Macy is a Velcro Springer and can be found hanging out near one or the other of the foster folks, curling up under a desk or on a rug near the TV. In her first foster home, she loved sleeping on the bed with the humans; but since that’s not allowed in the new place, and she doesn’t care for crates, she’s been allowed to pick a spot to sleep overnight. Her current favorite location is on a boat cushion in the desk cubby-hole – her own personal cave. Who needs crate doors when this beautiful gal is completely housetrained? With last call at 9 or 10 p.m. and first call at 7 a.m. or so, she’s fine; although she does prefer that the humans come outside and mill about while she does her business.
No counter-surfing or trash-diving out of this gal, although she will sit for treats and give the sad Springer look at the table while her people are eating. She’s not currently playing with toys or the resident dogs, but she’s fine with group petting. She has no food aggression at all. After the first day of debating about appetite, she’s a prompt, but not hurried, eater.
A real champ in the car, immediately flopping in the back, Macy has been into pet stores, a busy park loop, and to a crowded bike race. Small toddlers easily gave her hugs, babies could pat her on the head, and exhausted cyclists called her over for post-race companionship. She greets all with a Springer grin and shows no aggression towards humans or other dogs.
Macy is decent on leash, willing to walk or jog with her human and perhaps a second dog. She doesn’t really understand about swimming but if her foster mom walks into the creek, she follows, debating if she should try to paddle her paws even though she’s not even in deep enough to float.
Because she really does love her humans, and is somewhat indifferent about companion dogs, Macy would love a home with someone around on a regular basis. Outings or travel would be great fun. She doesn’t have high prey drive and could easily learn to be off leash within sight of her favorite person or people. She doesn’t dig or get into trouble in the yard, thinks that every day is an adventure, and is in great health.
