Mac is being turned into rescue because his owner died and his widow really doesn’t have the energy to keep up with him. Her kids (20 and 25) moved out early in 2000 and in December 2000 her husband passed away. He was a mailman and was home quite a lot and spent a lot of time with Mac. She travels with her job and will be doing more traveling and unfortunately leaves Mac alone a lot now.
Mac’s owner has not made the decision to give him up quickly. She first offered him to her husband’s best friend and the friend already had a dog or two and couldn’t take him. She wants to find a home for him where he’ll have companionship. He also lives with 2 cats so he’s fine with them. She was not sure about young kids since her children were teenagers when they got Mac.
Mac weighs about 60-65 pounds. He eats 3 big biscuits in the morning and dry food (Gravy Train) at night. He’s never had table food. She is constantly fighting ear infections and “allergy eyes” which may be a seasonal thing. Sometimes he does chew and will get a hot spot. Sometimes out of the blue Mac will limp and the vet will give him an anti-inflammatory and he will stop limping.
Mac could use some work on walking on a leash. He’s used to going on walks because they live in a townhouse community and everyone must walk their dogs. She said when he was younger and they would go to New England in the summer, he absolutely loved to swim.
Mac is a fine healthy boy with lots of love and energy to share with the right home.
