Original: “Luther is a pint-sized bundle of love and sweetness.”
Luther was purchased from a breeder as a puppy and enjoyed being the only “child” of an active young New York couple. Three years ago, he got a human sister. Things were fine until the baby became a toddler. Luther wasn’t happy with all the noises and actions of an active toddler and he began to show his displeasure with a growl. His family now has a 3-month-old baby and a toddler. This young family made the difficult decision to seek a better life for Luther and got in touch with MAESSR.
Luther is housetrained and has full run of his foster home along with the two resident Springers. He will whine to indicate he needs to go outside. Luther will go in a crate but when his person goes to lock the door, he would growl and charge the door. The foster family has been working on the que “load up.” In this desensitization plan, he goes in the crate, treats are dropped in the corner, and the gate is latched very quietly. As this is repeated, Luther will get less and less reactive to being crated. It’s good that Luther has shown no problems when he has full run of the house and is not crated when his foster parents aren’t home. Hopefully, his new family will also grant him these privileges, so crating won’t be an issue. When bedtime comes, Luther sleeps in the bed with foster parents and the two resident Springers.
This smart boy knows “sit” and “down” and comes when called. He LOVES his leash walks and his foster dad! He loves meeting new people, too. He was even a good boy at the vet. His foster family has not had him groomed but they don’t anticipate any issues when spa day comes around.
Luther is a pint-sized bundle of love and sweetness. He has been around the foster mom’s mother who uses a walker and has been respectful of her space. His foster family has a caged rabbit and Luther has also been respectful towards it. Just keep those wiggly, noisy little people away from him! Adults are really nice to cuddle with on the couch, though, and they know how to give great belly rubs which Luther really appreciates. Outside, he likes the fenced yard freedom which was something new to him. He and the resident Springers have a great time playing together. They have shown Luther that flushing the ducks on the other side of the fence is a fun pastime!
Luther would like joining an active person/family who would give him plenty of leash walks and allow him to run and play in the yard. He would more than likely be a good hiking companion. He promises to be a good boy when given full run on the house. And mostly, this sweetheart would love to be allowed to snuggle on the couch or in bed with his new family. Winter will soon be here and Luther would love to cuddle next to you and keep you warm!
