Happy Holidays from Luma! She is doing well and continues to make gains in foster care. She struggles with grumbling on occasion and has some toy and bone aggression. “It’s mine all mine!!” may be her starting point but, with consistent guidance from her foster parents, she is learning to trade for a treat and thus let go of “treasures.” Very nice to see!
In addition to trading for valued items, Luma is expanding her list of tricks. She has learned to “stay” with a treat on her paw and waits patiently in anticipation to get the signal to take the treat! Her foster mom is also putting Luma’s hunting skills to use by teaching her to play “hide and seek” with her toys.
In her foster home Luma lives harmoniously with cats and even finds them interesting from time to time. She is OK with getting her nails clipped but is not interested in learning to shake hands…yet.
This stealthy girl has learned that her foster family sleeps soundly, and, that she can sneak onto their bed in the middle of the night. They wake up to a furry friend, lying across their legs with belly-side up.
Luma would love to find a new toy from Santa in a few weeks and a family of her own in the New Year. Check back for continuing news on this beautiful gal; the best is yet to come for her!

Look out critters! Luma, the border patrol officer reporting for duty! Luma loves to “patrol” the tree lines around her foster home. She gets lots of exercise darting in and out of the bushes and looks too darn cute covered in colorful fall leaves. When she is done with her shift, Luma hears her foster mom say “In the House!”, and she comes running for some yummy treats. This girl is happy to sit, stay, weave, lie down, and army crawl to get those tasty nibbles. Next week, her foster mom promised to show her some new tricks to add to her repertoire.
At dinnertime, her foster mom needs to keep an eye out since this girl is quite the counter-surfer if savory smells are around.
Before bedtime, Luma knows when her foster family is ready to relax for the night. She is happy to join in with a diving leap onto the closest lap and settles in for her favorite thing…belly rubs! It won’t be long until this gal is ready to “lap dive” with an adopting family. If you have critters to keep at bay and laps to warm on the cool nights ahead, keep a close eye on this gal’s progress!

When Luma’s Pennsylvania family was moving to Texas and couldn’t take this beautiful young lady with them, Miss Luma became a MAESSR girl and has shown herself to be a very easy and affectionate houseguest.
Luna is housetrained, but does not signal to go out. She doesn’t dig, chew, submissively urinate, or jump on people. She was crate trained but hasn’t used one since she was one year old. In her foster home, she barks and becomes very stressed if asked to settle in a crate.
When it comes to feeding time, Luma has learned to sit nicely. She also learned very quickly to sit when her leash is put on and taken off. Although she is not leash trained, she doesn’t pull and is beginning to walk nicely next to her foster mom. Her original owners had not taken her to obedience training, but said that she knows “sit,” “stay,” “come,” and “down.”
Barking when someone comes to her door, including the delivery man, comes naturally to Luma. She appears fearful and barks when first meeting people and other pets, but warms up within minutes and is ready to cuddle! While she previously lived with a very young child, she has been a bit anxious in her foster home and will do best with an adopting family of all adults or one that includes teenagers.
This pretty girl is not interested in playing fetch or going swimming with the resident German shepherd but, when taken out for a hike, she is one happy dog.
