Update 11/15/2013: “With proper guidance, Lulu will become a devoted family member”
Frequently, with time and patience, dogs that received very little socialization early on can learn all of those important social skills. Little by little, that seems to be the case with Miss Lulu. Her foster family continues to work with her and they are seeing progress.
When given attention, Lulu is submissive or retreats completely. However, she is a little less timid now as she spends more time in foster care. She’s still a bit of a wild child; she’s easily excitable and loves running. This active puppy jumps a lot, so her foster family is helping her learn to keep her feet on the floor.
Lulu is doing well with her housetraining and understands that she’s expected to go the bathroom outdoors. She has learned to use the crate and responds to the command to retreat there. She also is learning to sit. Great job, Lulu!
Lulu’s foster parents have exposed her to children and many other animals. She is unfazed by the animals and shows no interest in children.
This sweet girl requires a family that is willing to spend quality time with her, patiently teaching her the finer points of being a well-behaved Springer pup. With proper guidance, Lulu will become a devoted family member.
Original: “Lulu is a really sweet girl, and, with time and love, will be a great friend.”
Lulu was found roaming a farm with several other dogs and taken to a West Virginia shelter. The folks there fell in love with her, and, wanting the best for her future, asked MAESSR for help. And, so, Lulu came to a MAESSR foster home—lucky Lulu!
This youngster’s behavior and lack of manners make her foster mom feel Lulu really lacked human contact for the first months of her short life. She is still very timid and submissive and does not know basic commands. But, so far in her new surroundings, Lulu seems to have house training learned and is gradually adjusting to a crate routine. Although she has demolished a bone, she not chewed inappropriately and has only been caught once attempting to counter-surf.
Lulu is a really sweet girl, and, with time and love, will be a great friend. She’d love a place where she can run, burn off energy and be the shadow of her human. She will also have to learn all the behaviors that will help her become an extra special Springer gal—walking on a leash, riding in a car, playing fetch, putting up with the necessary vets and groomers, giving kisses, and enjoying her safe, secure future.
Now that “Lulu’s back in town,” she will need a home with someone who can devote the time and patience to giving her the training that has been so lacking in her experience. MAESSR only places puppies in homes that are committed to training and bonding with the pup in obedience classes. Puppies require a lot of care, attention, and patience, and they do chew on things! The decision to get a puppy and raise it to be a healthy, happy, and well-adjusted dog is a serious commitment. To reinforce this commitment, MAESSR requires all adopters of dogs under 1 year old to enroll their puppy in obedience classes within 60 days of adoption. Are you ready for this challenge? Your reward would be unconditional love from your own Lulu!
